Chris; GREAT GOOGA MOOGA! What an outstanding job! If you didn't win "Best in Show", the judges were bribed. I've really enjoyed this from start to finish. Keep up the good work and please post more of your incredible builds... Tim

I have to agree with Tim Above.....if this isn't the best build at this show, something's very wrong! Congratulations on a great, original replica of a radically designed racecar. You, sir , are a craftsman! T.Tracy

It is likely the model does look better. The cars of the day were crude in comparison to today's CNC cars. The fit and finish were consistent with the hand made nature of those cars, when seen up close. Today's restorations are much more flattering then when the cars actually were raced. Your model is magnificent. For my money, perhaps no other model will ever approach it, show judges be damned.

I left some things a little ruff because thats the way they were back then, like the seam across the Ducktail to body and then covered it with "scale Duct Tape" same on the vent on the nose I left the edges of the Duct Tape ruff on purpose because I didnt want it to look like stripping... its all in the details, even if the judges dont know the difference between their (expletive deleted) and a hole in the ground, I thought I saw them pounding sand up their (expletive deleted) and wiping the ground with toilet paper LOL OOOOPs I hope I didnt offend anyone...Chris

Great build. I haven't entered a contest since I was 12, but I would imagine that if the judge isn't a student of Indy cars they couldn't effectively judge what they see. From what I've seen in the magazines NASCAR and NHRA dominate the subject matter.
Maybe I'll have to try the NNL in Toledo sometime just to see how I fare.

Dave, read the article in Model Cars Magazine by Tim Boyd called What makes an NNL? the august/sept. issue and you will be prepared and have a blast!! Note NNL's are not Suppose to be Competitive.... or simply speak to anyone who has been to the So Cal NNL that I put on...By the way Welcome back to Modeling !!!

Chris, you gave to me a good idea, what do you think in put a V8 in this car? I bought this kit two years ago thinking in this, who drove the 56 with a V8 ? Cheers. Alex

Bill Smith of Speedway Motors fame has a Gerhardt-Plymouth driven by Greg Weld in his American Museum of Speed in Lincoln NE. I'd always thought they were the Lotus with an engine swap until the tour guide explained it differently.

BAD NEWS... I pulled this car out today to get it ready for the So Cal NNL in 10 days and all of the paint now has micro cracking ,Patina if you will, but the finish is not like it was in the WIP pics.. I guess I will note that it has the same patina as the real car does Today!!! Bummer ... I intend on showing it still but I had hoped the paint would still be as nice as the day I packed it away back in November.. Chris

As I remember my own problem with my Lotus 18, my heart truly goes out to you my good friend. As I said..."GDSB!" and then I let out with a scream. I hope the neighborhood wasn't too scared.

I maintain a Fotki site that has all my builds and research on hundreds of cars, please feel free to visit and refer to the pics for purposes of Model Car building. Being disabled I spend a couple of hours almost everyday doing research so my fellow modelers wont have to and can spend the time Building!!! My personal files now are around 2,000 cars and 15,000 pics. public.fotki.com/pmodwrks/ Enjoy !!! Chris

THANKS CHRIS for the wonderful pics and research material. I was a huge fan of the STP Plymouth in both the 56B and the "SuperWedge" cars. looking to get a resin kit of the SuperWedge should Lance make one available.
I really appreciate the link. thanks again! Kevin
