Upper and lower body permanently attached to the frame! Rear suspension is installed. Steering arm is installed.. Installed drag link. What nice is it does not interfere with the nose cone. Pro Tech photo-etched bolts installed on various points of the suspension and steering links. Fuel cap was painted Alclad gold titanium and the latch Alclad chrome Roll bar is installed

Rear tires are attached with 5 minute epoxy. Since the wheels are exposed it's critical that they are straight (especially when it is judged at a contest) so lots of checking and rechecking while the epoxy cured. Front wheels and tires are installed.. Header and exhaust pipe are permanently attached. Close up of the header on the 255 Offy. I added photo etched bolts to the header. Tail pipe has the proper stance Last Item I reinstalled was the ram air scoop which I repainted with Alclad polished Aluminum. As I did not like the finish on it previously...

When you sit back and look at your handiwork do you ever think "I could have done this in 1/1 scale"?
Just an incredible piece of workmanship.

Gosh. I………..I don't know how to…………………I mean I can't find words to……….Gee, I just can't come up with what I want to say. I could look at this all day and still not see everything you have added. That is some wonderful craftsmanship skills. Once you attend the IPMS show might I suggest you have this displayed in the Louvre----Musee du Louvre. That should be among the works of da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt and Matisse. Wunderbare Arbeit, Herr Handwerker!!!!!!

The finished model just takes your breath away. The use of the p/e fasteners and rivets on the windscreen was amazing. Sorry I won't be able to see it in person at the Nats. Once again, well done Andy.

Tell us more about this machine that you've invented that takes a real car and shrinks it down to 1/24 scale! In your introduction to this thread, you called your self a "newbie" at open-wheel modeling. I can't wait to see what you can do when you get a little skill behind you! Great build! Great WIP!. --Frank

Andy...your fab work and attention to detail on this build is just awesome bud!! The sit...the paint scheme...the small detail work is a work of ART. Like I said in another forum...if you don't place on the Podium at the NATS..then something is terribly wrong. It would be cool to see your work in person but...it's a little ways for me to go...this year anyway. Good luck at the show.

As I said to Art about his Lola T332 thread, I say to you Andy. You can never delete these photos as you have created the definitive build of this kit and everyone who follows you and your build will be consulting this thread. Excellent, just excellent.

Hi Andy: I'm bringing a bunch of ships to the Nats, but I am also bringing the 1956 Dean Van Lines Special for the open wheel class. After looking at your build, though, I probably should leave it home! :-)

Don't leave the 56 Dean Van Lines at home! I want to see it!
Matter of fact I hope to see a lot of Indy Car builds at this years Nats. The more the better!

I had a great time at the nationals and got to see all the "usual suspects" like Andy, Jim, Tom Faletti and Ed Mautner. Andy won the open wheel category with his Roadster (which looks even better in person than in the photos), and I believe Jim got a third with his Honda Formula 1 racer. There were a lot of really nice open wheel models there including a nice Revell midget (I think the V8 60) which came in second, and 2 rear drive miller kits, one painted as the Indy winner that Louis Meyer drove, and one painted like the Ray Keech winner. It's hard to believe that the nationals started a week ago!

Back from Nats and in recovery mode. Weeks of anticipation and it's over in a flash. Spent a lot of money in the vendor room despite being on a short leash to our ARM tables. Got to do a few fast runs through the contest room. Without a doubt, Andy's Watson was one of the best models in the room and should have received Best Automotive. Agree with Bobby, it was better in person than in the photos and the WIP photos were really good. I am sure the judges had a hard time deciding between the Watson and the conjectural Karmann Ghia racer that won Best... Also saw some great model cars by Andy Sapiro. Not sure if he is on our Forum, but he should be. At one point as I was running down the tables I bumped into Andy Caldwell and Andy Sapiro chatting together. Two great modelers amicably exchanging notes. But the best part is always the friendships renewed there every year. I hope we can do it again next year in Omaha.
