Unfortunate I didn't get to get much video of the U-3 Go3 Allison. Plus I was trying to get pics at the same time....then one of the turbos blew (?) on the 2nd lap of qualifying. If you have a good sound system, the Twin Turbo Allison rumble should sound pretty good! love that sound!!!! duane

Here is a few shots from the always popular vintage Hydroplane race. The Miss Wahoo! and the Miss Bardahl run deck to deck during last Friday's vintage hydroplane race. I fell in love with these vintage hydros when I first saw them run in 2007, the vintage aircraft engines really set them apart from any other power plant in motorsports. A shot of the awesome 1962 Miss Bardahl from the vintage hydroplane race last Friday. I always liked the secret agent guy on the tail. Also, the BIG DEEP rumble of the V-12 Rolls-Royce is always wonderful to hear. Breathless III 1954 Gale V 1955 Miss Thriftway of Washington State

The BIG "Turbinator" U-3 with the Big Twin Turbo 1710 c.i. Allison V-12 that produces a cool 3,000 hp @ 40+lbs of boost, burning through 150 gallons of Methanol in 5 laps (12 miles)

I am curious to know what the driver feels when driving a modern hull boat like the U3 with piston power versus turbine power. I suspect there would be a "Sweet Spot" with the piston motor while perhaps the turbine is more of a consistent power band. Does that make the boat handle and respond differently?
Great pictures and thanks for sharing them. The vintage boats are really beautiful pieces of machinery.

The drivers hung on for dear life, going as fast as they could, racing the other drivers on course, going over 150mph without a seat belt.

The main problem is these racing machines are unique and not very many, that very few people have ever driven, it would be hard to come up with an answer. As far as I can see the Piston power has a better get up and go out of the corners while turbines have to spool up al little more.

This is a shot from a couple of years ago of the Canadian unlimited "Miss Supertest". It was piloted by Bob Hayward, a drag racer out of South Western Ontario, Hayward lost his life in this boat, the team folded shortly afterwards. It was a winner in Detroit and great that it still exists. This is an interesting thread and I appreciate the updates. Agree with you Chaparral2k so few drivers with the skills to race these boats. Appreciate your thoughts on driving them.

Miss Supertest III CA-3 has an incredible winning record - as it won all four races it entered from 1959-1961 (59' Detroit Memorial, '59 Harmsworth Trophy, '60 Harmsworth Trophy, '61 Harmsworth Trophy) 30 ft in length and had the all mighty Rolls-Royce Griffon feel free to come over to my hydro forum and talk about anything, I haven't told very many people about yet.... hydroplane-racing.freeforums.net/

Jordan just pointed out this new GoPro video to me! This is a neat little video of some of the sights and sounds from last year. This is great exposure for our obscure form of racing.

This is the best video I've ever seen of sights and sounds of Unlimited Hydroplanes....the roostertail shots are POWERFUL! It gives the exact feel of the G's and tons of forces!

Currently at Lake Chelan, Washington for the vintage Hydroplane event. There is 5 unlimiteds here along with many smaller limiteds. Tomorrow is the main event when they run them on the water. Here is a few phone shots, just prove I made it.

Today went out pretending to be a photographer. Soaking in all the action and capturing the moment. Said goodnight to Miss Budweiser this evening. ...snuck down to the pits when everyone was gone Said good night to Oberto too! And Miss Thirftway. BTW I brought my own tri-pod in case you are wondering how I took selfies all by myself. Lol

I had a doctors appointment today in Seattle. So since I was over there and a member of the Hydroplane and Raceboat museum I went and played on the thunderboats! I finally got to sit in Bill Muncey's legendary 1977 Atlas Van Lines "Blue Blaster" not many can say they did that.... Last year I got to sit in the 1982 Atlas Van Lines, which is currently on tilt in the background. Then I played around on the 1968 Miss Budweiser like usual.... and of course touched all these big girls on tilt.

No quick spins with these big boats.

That's some pretty cool access you get there Jordan Yeah, not too many museums let you play on the displays. But these boats are so big and strong it would be hard to break anything.
