Heat shield is in order, I think the headers might cause a DNF! Yeah, not quite enough droop on the left side. That's a function of having to wire it before the headers were on and not anticipating the rub. Good thing it's only a model.

Thanks, guys! Here are some pics of the wheels and tires. I thought that the rear wheel had a little too large of a lip on it, so I cut it down on the lathe, and drilled out the center. I made some wheel nuts with some Pro Tech fittings and aluminum tube. I didn't take any pictures of this part, but I made new front tires. The F5000 cars have a pretty low-profile tire, and this kit represents that, but they are maybe just a little too small. So I took an Indy car tire, molded it, then shaved it down and cast two halves that I mated together with some styrene spacers to widen it. Then I made a new mold and made the two fronts. Here are the completed tires and wheels.

I may never build another car! Patrick Hell, Patrick, if everyone who is not as good as Art quits, the hobby, and our board will not exist anymore. I'm amazed by your builds, so it's all relative. Just shake your head and enjoy, that's what I do.

Thanks for all the comments, guys. You crack me up, but the given the talent you all have, it means a lot.
Gary, I had it up on wheels with wings at the end of January in time to take it to the Grand National Roadster Show model contest, but there are still some details I want to ad before calling it done. I'll be wrapping it up this week for a show at the Peterson Automotive Museum next Sunday, so I'll get more pics up soon. Thanks for looking!

I would really like to get down there this year but...I don't think it's going to happen. Maybe next year. With you and ART showing your cars is going to be a very KOOL display to see. Maybe Patrick....you could take a few pics and post'em here for us unfortunate folks that won't be there? Just a thought. Have a good show guys.... Patrick I'm really looking forward to seeing your builds, Patrick! I asked Curt Raitz if he could bring his Tony A-Z build, but he gave it away to Tony last year, so he no longer has it. So as far as I know, it's just us, and I'm a one-car show. I think it will still be really cool, but hopefully we can get someone to join us. I might troll for some others too...

Would have been cool if if you could have made it, Gary. You gotta do it next year! Maybe we can do midget/sprint car display?
The Petersen show is called ValleyCon and it used to be at the Pasadena Convention Center and is an all-discipline show (military, sci-fi, etc.). But it usually gets a good car turnout and with the move to the Petersen it's expected to get even more car guys this year.

I try an attend at least two up here each year. Man...Doing a Midget/Sprintcar/Super modified (notice how I slid the Super in there...LOL) display would be pretty cool..But...I'm still going to do a few F5000 cars. Between you and Patrick...you folks have my juices running for an F5000 build. LOL

Art, I’ve just been perusing through your build as I have my kit laid out in front of me. My thoughts have changed from a couple of years ago as to what I’m going to replicate, but the basics of this car are about the same no matter what team. I was surprised in looking over your thread that I had forgotten that you never showed us the completed model. Did you finish it?

Lola T332 Completed Hi Paul, as to did I finish it or not, the answer is yes and no! In my mind, I never completed it, because I had some details I always intended to add that have not been done, that when completed, I was going to post up the finished build. But... I did finish it enough to where I could take it to shows, because no one but me would know those details weren't there. However, this is a tough model to travel with because it's heavy, and it tends to come apart on the road. Then I had a couple of incidents where the box it was in got dumped, so it got some damage. And that's where it currently sits after the last crash. It's repairable, but I just haven't prioritized it. But I do have some shots of it "completed". Since the WIP, I added some mirrors that I mastered and cast myself, and I also added some magnets to the engine cover. The ignition wires tended to lift it, but the magnets that secure to the metal suspension works well. Anyway, here are some pics:

Ohhh La La.....
As always looking great... I have about 70+ photos I took for you of the Blue Shupan, Unser,....F5000 When I was at the IMS museum in April during the Unser exhibit. I sent you a few via phone the day I was there (I think you received those?) but have many more. Do you still want them? Should I zip them up and send them? Talk about tardy sorry brother!
These ground pounders bring back so many memories for me! My father and I never missed this show when it came to Road America. Their were always surprise drivers that would show up at the track that weren't part of the advertised bill.
Rutherford, Johncock, Danny on the Gas!(my personal favorite) Yada Yada.. It remined me of a box of chocolates... you never knew what you were going to get! what a great series...…
During practice we would stand by the Billy Mitchell bridge(turn 13)Tunnel now. The bridge had a steel corrugated covering and when they went under the bridge the sound that resonated off that roof was pure joy. My Dad and I would look at each other and giggle like a couple of kids. We never missed a Can Am show either... Jackie Oliver and George Folmer in the UOP Shadows.... They always got all the good out of those cars when they weree there.... Road em hard and put em away wet! I still get a bit of a fix at the vintage races that they run every year...IMO if you were into road racing in the late 60s and throughout the 70s Road America was the place to be! The stars were the cars!
Great build my man..... I haven't touched a kit in over a year... However I did pull out Jungle Jim and would like to put that project to bed by the end of the year. If I'd quit dropping it or melting it by trying to have all four wheels on the ground It would have been done a long time ago. I bought the kit in 1973 and if I look at it the wrong way it cracks or falls apart she's pretty brittle. I will prevail thou!!!!. I'm not going to use decals for the Jungle Character, lettering, faux grille, headlights and taillights, I'm going to Airbrush and hand paint it all... perhaps I'll do a tutorial on the process. One of my brothers of the brush(Julian Barat," Mr J") painted the original car in the 70s when he and Glen did all the lettering for Bob Gerdes Circus paint in Jersey. I buy allot of supplies from J and he has passed on to me the recipes for the main Candy Blue. I just so happen to have a few jars of the original lead based Murano pearls(that I purchased new in the seventies and are as fresh as the day I bought them)in various colors to totally replicate the paint. You being in CA if you ever come across any Murano pearls (they were manufactured in So Cal by the long defuncted Metal flake brand ) buy them! they are worth their weight in gold!
Always Love your builds Art... When I grow up I want to be just like you!
Cheers Mate Jimmy "RASS"

I was a bit young when these cars were in their heyday, but I did see them at Riverside as a young kid, which is why I was motivated to build this. I wish I had been a bit older to appreciate the context of it all, but now that it's passed, glad I'm younger! lol Yes! I would like to get those pictures from you. As it turns out, I was in Indy a couple of weeks ago and went to the museum, and the Unser display and this car was still there. So I took a bunch of pics also, but they wouldn't let me get past the rope. The museum employee took some of the pictures for me, but they were not great, so I would definitely like to get yours. I'll talk to you later on what we can do to make that happen. Look forward to see your funny car. Hopefully you'll get back on it soon! -Art
