Fantastic!
Is the Chrome paint tough? Does it scratch easily like most chrome paints?

Here are a few of the latest photos of my build in progress. Some of the photos aren't too clear. The radiator shell and engine are just laying in the frame. I used Alclad Chrome for the exhaust and Polished Aluminum for the radiator shell, front drive, and axle assy.

Fantastic! Is the Chrome paint tough? Does it scratch easily like most chrome paints? It's not bad, Calvin. The front axle did dull a bit, but It was handled much more than most parts would be. All in all I think that, for me,it is every bit as good as Alclad, with much less time and effort. Bobby, your car is looking good. Take Care Craig

The instructions are the worst part of the kit. Let me know if you run into any problems and I'll try and help you any way I can. Also- I just got decals for the # 4 and # 12 that Leon Duray had (black and white car) from Starfighter Decals. He can make them for you guys also. Here's my home email address and phone number in case you want to go over anything about the build: rcicc59@aol.com. Home phone is 610-455-0580. I'm generally around after 5 PM Eastern time and I'll call you back if I don't answer.

My thing was to work with the parts that I knew, and slowly pick out the others by process of elimination. You are following the instructions on installing the rear axle assembly after the body. I am planning on the body last. I know that the car will be rather fragile at that point, but I want to get it on 4 wheels with no tricycle issue, plus I really dont see how I can install the axle assemsly once the body is in place. I second the idea of helping anyone else with this build. If I can help, shoot me a PM with your contact info, and I will give you a call. Take Care Craig

I'm following this build with great interest, I got one of these for Christmas, and it took me about 3 hours just to inventory the parts! I found some pics of a similar car on the internet that really helped me answer some questions but I've lost the link! If I can find it again, I'll post it. I might never find the time to build mine but it's very inspiring to see one done!

That looks way cool! What did you use for the plug wires? They look like something right out of a '30's photo.

This looks great. The contrast of the purple and yellow is striking. Your attention to detail is really something. Please share the rest of the way. Ditto on good luck at the contest. Glad some others are going to see this. Jim

Man, I liked you a lot better when you were building model ships. Seriously, it is beauty and I hope that you will also bring it to NNL East on the 26th. Ed

Ha ha!! I'm still building ships, but I love race cars and I couldn't pass this one up! Regarding the rear axle- You do want to put the body on first, as the axle tube actually rests inside that cutout under the tail. The 2 leaf springs just center and hold the axle tube where it should be. It's actually really neat the way it works. Be careful when you locate the forward spring mounts on the frame rails. Locate the rear spring mount first, and then let the forward part of the spring tell you where to attach the front mount. If what I'm saying here is hard to understand, call me on the phone and I'll walk you through the procedure. It's actually easy, but you can have a problem if you attach the front spring mounts in the wrong place. I'll try and take some photos tonight to show you what I mean regarding the rear axle tub and springs. I'll also let you know how to align the rear spindles to make sure the car sits level. Looking at the various photos I have of the real cars, it seems that the rear spindles may not be straight up and down, but I'll figure that out tonight or tomorrow night when I finish that part of the build.

I used thread for the plug wires, but you need to use beeswax on it first, to get rid of any small strands that may stick out. Go to a fabric store and they have a ton of different colored threads to choose from.

Looking real good, Bobby. I understand what you are saying about the axle. Mine has the uprights already glued in, as per the instructions (my bad). I think I will install the springs, put the body on with no glue, and see if I can snake the axle into place. Otherwise I think my plan will work out. I will try to call you tomorrow, so that we can compare notes. Did you remove the rear crossmember? Take Care Craig

Thanks, Bobby. I don't have that part, it was not in the kit, or I lost it( most likely). I can make something like that.
For everyone's information, bobbyc is Bobby Cicconi, a great former midget and silver crown driver. Anyone who remembers Saturday Night Thunder will know the name. Thanks for some great memories, Bobby, although some of them were painful for you. Glad to have you here. Take Care Craig

The Thunder series was great, some of the best racing ever broadcast. I remember Bob giving an interview while they were loading him into the ambulance after that trip over the wall at IRP. Midgets at IRP is some of the best racing in the world.

Midgets at IRP is some of the best racing in the world. That was the very first thing I thought of when Craig stated who Bobbyc was. It must have left an impression, that was a few years ago. Great to see you on the board, and what a beautiful (and beautifully done) car. I sure miss Thursday Night Thunder as well. I'm about to sign up with USAC TV for my Roku. The seem to have lots of the old stuff with new races available as well. MJ
