Were any of these ever made, or was it just the GeForce? I want to try building my first model. I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to masking, but I think I could pull off some straight lines I thought trying to build one of my favorite IRL cars from the early days, the Royal Purple car Jimmy Kite drove in 1998.

Also, does anyone have any additonal photos of this car?
Ones that show the nose would be amazing. Also, anything that shows the sponsors behind the front tire.
Will be sharing the decal sheet once I build it, and maybe I'll even play in the build-o-rama!

Maisto only made the G-Force chassis. The Royal Purple was a favorite of mine as well.

Can probably get away with using a standard Action Dallara?

I guess that would be a decent match. I dunno if Kite ran this car on any short ovals.
Pictures from 1998 are IMPOSSIBLE to find.

To get this car really close you need to combine a Maisto Crest car with the Western Union car I believe. Use the air box from the WU car and the body from the Crest car. Not sure you want to go thru all that for your 1st conversion though. Stu

IIRC the IRL was on three year chassis cycles (97-99,00-02,then the 03's were just now replaced) so I don't think they will be same (2000-2002 body vs '98 body) but it should be close enough or a good starting point if you want to correct everything like Stu recommended.

97 was pretty different from 98 and 99. I agree, 00 to 02 is close enough.

To me, and I think I have a pretty good eye for detail, both '97s looked they were popped from the same mold. Come '98, the Dallaras had a distinctive airbox entry which help quick ID'ing. As far as Action, I doubt they changed the mold from the 2000 to the 2002 so any of those years should work the same. Jordan

Thanks, actually, that's got the 1997 airbox, so not quite right. It needs the circular airbox. I have these decals done except for whatever is on the frickin engine cover, and then the nose is a total WAG. Amazingly, I was able to identify everything else. Something that says "Feel the difference"

I think it might be "Synerlec - Feel The Difference"

If you want to get a photo of the car as it ran indy in 1998, I'm sure the IMS photo shop will have it in their archive for sale.

Thanks, Mike! Would appreciate seeing that. Might help me with a couple of the other small sponsors behind the front wheel.

Here's my '98 and '99 I made. I cut the top off the Crest car and super glued the airbox on. I made a copy of a 2001 airbox out of resin, and finsihed off with white putty. I still have the mold I made, so if you send me your address, I can send you one. Attachments:

Mike, since I'm guessing you don't have the top of the nose figured out yet, I'll tell you. It's got Royal Purple without any skew in the letters running top to bottom. Forum won't let me space out the last E properly, thus the underscore:
R P O U Y R A P L L _ E

No photo unfortunately. I saw one at the time and made the car for ICR2. It would be here, though the webpage gives me credit for a few too many carsets. www.icr2.net/archive/index.php?act=category&id=29The letters on the nose should have zero slant, I know that much.
