Cogan's CV did not break, that was just the party line. The start was too slow and when the green fell, Cogan stood on it, lit the blower and the fertilizer then proceeded to contact the rotary ossilator. The start and any restart, done properly was to put the left foot on the brake just slightly. Using the throttle, the driver should light the blower and then when it's green, the car will shoot forward like a rocket when the brake is let off. That is how Rahal smoked Cogan in 1986. It was also the only way to maintain speed coming off the last turn at Phoenix to get down the straight. Takes some getting used to, but that is the technique.

Sometimes you have to go backwards before you can go forward. Kinda amazing to me but the cockpit is too far forward! But since I realized it I cant believe I didn't notice it earlier? Well anyway Im basically moving the whole cockpit section back to a more accurate location. I went ahead and added to it because I will not be able sand on it for a few days....

Oh...Beleive me SWT500.....I know Cogan's CV Joint didn't break. ( I guess sarcasm doesn't translate through a computer screen well, does it?) I still think "The Captain" was trying to save face due to the fact "Coogan" said Foyt hit him?.....Which was total BS!
Best to you!

A lot of people dont know this but "Coogan" and Foyt had another "run in" at the 2nd to last race of the year at the Michigan 150 - Coogan was on the high side of Foyt in turn 1 and Coogan just flat lost it and smashed into AJ which took both of them into the wall - then an explosion of an oil fire really made it look like a pretty nasty crash. But both were all right. After it was all said and done, yet again AJ was Pissed off at Coogan! Well see for yourself

Did AJ make contact with Cogan or did Cogan break loose? Looked more like contact to me but the video was too fuzzy!?!
Man these cars had big undertrays back then!!

Here are a couple of photos you won't see very often. Last year when I was at the museum I told one of the old gentleman that guard the displays that I was a model builder. I told him that I just had to get a photo of the dash board of JR's Chapparal and could he hop the rope and take a few photos for me. I don't know if you guys have noticed but the museum is very strict about people hopping the ropes and getting that close to some of the cars. After coaxing & pleading, the gentleman let me hop the rope and take a couple of photos of the dash myself. Sitting right next to the Chapparal at the time was the Wildcat so I took the liberty to take a few of those as well. I had somehow lost the photos of the Wildcat but remember sending them to my good friend Paul (pje on the site) and Paul re-forwarded them to me this morning. Here ya go and hope the help as well. Sorry that they are a little blurry but that's what happens when you get nervous and in a rush! I finished with my test run with casting some of the parts for the kit....I original said I was going to do something else besides using the PC6 parts but they will work fine. Casing these parts (as seen bellow) IMO are going to be the hardest ones to get right. They have a few air bubbles...but I dont see to many resin parts out there that dont. Like I said these are going to be the hardest ones to cast. The body should be easy along with the wings and the single sided parts.

The other day I went to our New Hobby Lobby store that open up 30mins (40mins in the snow) south of my location, they had a pretty good section of model kits and supply's. But I found some Black Die for resin so Im going to try it out on my tire casting(s) and see how they come out....maybe they wont need to be painted if it works?

The black resin tires I've seen didn't need painting. That said, the best tires I've ever done were white resin painted with dupli-color flat black - that paint looks more like rubber than real rubber!

I don't think I ever noticed this about this car, but in looking at the great images posted here, does the blue paint have a metallic hint to it?

The Best paint to use on Joncock's car is going to be Tamiya TS-23 Light Blue and TS-36 Flo Red. With Mario I'm actually not to sure at the moment because there is a few different blue metallics for TS paints and I dont have any of them to try out at the moment.

For the Mario car, the paint you used on your sample looks good if used in heavy coats. I started going to the races in 1981 and the 81/82 Wildcats were amongst the first cars I saw up close (The Chaparral was the first). Mario's car was a very dark midnight/navy blue metallic. There might be better options in the Tamiya lineup but I'm not sure at this point.

I used TS15 on my sample (just a old can) I wasn't doing any matching with it. Im thinking the TS50 Mica Blue might be the best if it is as dark and if it has the slight metallic touch like the Mica Red?

Even if TS15 was metallic, it's too light.

You know......I was just thinking a little bit, I dont mean to get ahead of myself, but after I get this 82 car done it wouldn't be that hard to take one of my castings and turn it into a 1981 Wildcat.....so we then could have a 1981 (May-October) Winner

Even if TS15 was metallic, it's too light. Well I guess Mica blue wouldn't work because I've been looking around and its lighter than TS-15 Maybe TS53 Deep metallic blue would be the one?

The 81 Wildcat was a very beautiful car in it's own right.

Mile The flat black does indeed look great on tires, but black resin makes it easier to use your great tire decals. Just apply them and topcoat with satin or flat clear. Take Care Craig
