Replying to "Know anything interesting today" Jan 2014 post: Last night while surfing the net about Indianapolis 500 wheels from the '60s, I looked at Cooper 8-spoke wheels and a photo of Cooper Monaco-Chevy of Don Sinns 1965 Cumberland race. This photo bothered me a lot as a wheel shown off the car had 8-spokes of a design I had never seen. As I have 3 King Cobras in the fire I wanted nice wheels, I bought a set of Dynamic slot car finned wheels that I had thought of turning down on a lathe to get the flared out fin web to rim effect. Looking at the photo this morning it hit me: the Cooper 8-spoke off the car in the photo was shown inside wheel view (the Firestone lettering inside the tire sidewall threw me off)! How stupid of me (took 4 months to notice but it sure looks cool)! Photos are only as good as you see them. The only 8-spoke Cooper wheels I know of are from the Monogram rear engine Scarab but not the reverse side is molded, any cast Cooper wheels out there in 1/24? I also did see the Genie wheels I asked about lately are 4-spoke. My addled memory also believes Revell cast "Genie" into each spoke. Anybody got a set of 4 they want to trade for? Thanx, John

In other news I have about 20 started models that are about half way! Remember back in the day when I used to finish 20 kits a year? I feel bad just because I give Paul a bad time and I'm just as guilty! I need a motorsports loving girlfriend!

I wished Indycar still had that "cowboy" stereotype like it used to.....well, from my point of view it seemed that way.....
Kind of the Jimmy Bryan, AJ Foyt, Lloyd Ruby, Al Unser, Lone Star JR style......

Calvin: probably the best place to meet a motorsport-loving girl is at a motorsport event, even club races. Look around for your local SCCA. Go work with and meet these people. Get involved in one of the specialties (Tech' Inspection, Registration or Timing & Scoring would be a great alternative to corner working, keeping your health in mind). Even the corners have Communications workers who, by design, work from inside and near their cars. Did I mention that I met my future wife at the 1970 Sebring 12 Hour Race? If a jerk like me can meet such a wonderful, motorsport-loving girl, then I should think there is hope (?) for anyone! By the way--don't give up on your resin work and models--we need you, as well! --Frank

Maybe that post was a little out of line (I'm not really a jerk--I just play one), but you did say once that you wanted drama on your forum! It also gave me a chance to brag about that wonderful, motorsport loving, model-loving woman I met through racing. Sorry, just got carried away! --Frank

FYI.....we have a bit of an issue up here in the Northwest as we had a pretry bad wind storm and all hell broke out last night with our beloved trees falling over....Yeah Spokane is in pretty bad shape today. Traffic is horrible. Trees are down everywhere. We are going to be without power for a very long time. A tree fell over out by our road and took out the electical poll that feeds our house. The wire snapped like a whip and is currently laying all over our lawn and field. We lost two halves of trees amazingly. We lucked out compared to a lot of others. We have the generator going right now to get the freezer and fridge back to temp. This is the worse power outage in the history of Spokane since the great ice storm of 1996. So I won't be around too much for the next few days....

Mother Nature has not been kind to you, and Tim this year. Stay safe. After your post, and Tim's photos, I guess Michigan winters are not so bad, after all.

Since im just a dumb model builder I do this kinda stuff. The utility Co says stay away from fallen wires and call 911.....screw that I say "power outage selfie" The electical wires are all tangled and twisted in the trees They are now saying we might be without power at the minimum of three days and it's surposed to get down to 18 deg by Fri.

Here is the tree that snapped our electric wire and snapped it like a big whip....the force of that wire snapping must have been amazing as if you saw the way it's laying is amazing. It would of cut a person in half.

This is what we woke up to, this morning. I just hate, when that happens. The good news is, I put the snowblower on my tractor, yesterday.

No Duane, she is only chewing on a stick. Also I always caught my marshmallows on fire. Craig, keep the snow over there. The last thing we need now is to see white stuff!

This is going a little back in the conversation, but Calvin when I met my wife she knew nothing of auto racing outside of Ricky Bobby. I kind of introduced my interest slowly. Lucky for me IndyCar had their "The Offseason" YouTube series. As both her and I love comedy this helped me greatly. As a result she became a fan of James Hinchcliffe and Will Power. She's not a huge racing fan but has shown a great deal of interest in it and will be at the 500 with me this year.
It worked for me, I don't know if it'll work uniformly across the board but it's a theory!

Calvin and his area got it pretty bad. I read in our paper that 3 were killed and 30,000 were without power, and being very cold makes it worse. Hope you get your power back soon.

To say the least! 30,000 is by far a understatement it was more like 150,000 without. We still have no power.....if you saw how our electric polls and wires looked you would say oh "shoot" that's not good! ....this is going to be a while.

Finally! Not sure that I wouldn't have gone for the hot water first, but to each his own ? Paul Erlendson The funny thing about this is, people that know me well, realize I have never had a sip of alcohol in my life! LOL There is actually a story behind the "Lets get drunk" back in 2008 we had a very bad wind storm in Oregon and knock out our power for a day......but grandma's power was knocked out for 3 days......well on the third day we went to grandma's house and took some dinner out to her.....while we were there at the table eating with her in the dark, her power came on! Then she got excited and stood up and said, "LET'S GET DRUNK!" so since then, whenever we have a power outage and lights come back on, we always yell out, "let's get drunk"
