Finally! Not sure that I wouldn't have gone for the hot water first, but to each his own ? Paul Erlendson The funny thing about this is, people that know me well, realize I have never had a sip of alcohol in my life! LOL Well, since you still had the cap on the bottle I kinda figured that. I think the Audi engineers may have paid a visit to the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum, judging by those fenders. And the car appears to be celebrating Movember this year as well.

I really did not need to see anything like that just before dinner. We thought the DW12 was ugly.

In this day of age of so much mechanical grip, it wouldn't be surprising if they were designing racecars with some aero lift! I know you mean the sponson fender look.....

In this day of age of so much mechanical grip, it wouldn't be surprising if they were designing racecars with some aero lift! I know you mean the sponson fender look..... As I recall from watching Indy qualifying this year, they already are. When they were really trimmed out they had the rear wing at as much of a negative angle as the rules allow. Of course, with the Aero Kits, I'm sure there was still plenty of downforce overall. MJ

I like the tire tribute. I understand only putting the winners who won on Firestones. I don't like the cluttered look, but overall it is neat. Maybe it is because I am a Mears fan, but it would have been cool to have all the winners names regardless of which tires they won driving.

Mattel "ThingMaker" 3-D printer for making plastic toy parts displayed at New York Toy Trade Fair last week. Saw an article last week in San Diego newspaper about this, anyone have any info? Only drawback seems it takes 10 hours (depending on size) to print! Expected to hit market this fall for around $300, should have kept my VacuFormer! Thanx, John P.S. Picked up the Cox Ferrari 158 F1 1/24 static kit off eBay, the Dunlops tires are plastic WITH molded in tire tread, did the BRM, Chaparral and Cheetah static kit tires have tread? I like the Cox tires because they have the proper "Bulging" sidewalls. Anyone duplicating, I'd like a couple of sets of each.

Probably won't get any usable parts from a $300 printer.... at least not if you want any fine detail or smoothness. Plus there's the cost of running it. I've looked at 3d printers up to $5000 and they just don't get the job done that I need. It's just more cost effective to send them to Shapeways.

Also, 10 hours isn't bad for a print. Some of the stuff I send to shapeways is on the printer for days.

I would have to see some parts, before I would consider a $300 printer. Hard to believe that could be anything but a toy.

Is there a cure for buying and selling the same model kits and magazines over, and over, and over again? I just went to the "Big Three" auto parts swap meet here in San Diego over this weekend. Last year I didn't want to go and ended up buying a real Cheetah roadster which I eventually sold for a loss, but at least I can say once upon a time I had a real Cheetah! This year my buddies backed out again so I went by myself just to buy some magazines and if something good in kit or slot car pops up getting that. Decided I wasn't going to walk the whole thing so found the magazine guy and purchased "Hot Rods" Aug 1962 Thompson's 1st Harvey Buick s, June 1963 Thompson-Chev "Roller Skate", August 1964 Indy 500 in color and a Feb/Mar 1968 "Drag Parts Illustrated" with Dempsey Wilson's Halibrand-Chevv cover shot. All these have excellent color covers and technical data. I had the Hot Rods before but they now reside in the San Diego Automotive Museum along with my Sports Car Graphics, Road & Tracks,Car and Drivers, etc, etc. If you need some reference material stop by there: THE REST I'M KEEPING but all the rest of my kits, slot cars, magazines and photos will go to the San Diego IPMS (when I update my will). Hopefully I will be around to complete and donate my projects. Thanx, John

I think most modelers are pack rats.
I struggle with magazines. I have those issues you speak of, and for the most part they are my second or third copies after getting rid of them. I think we collect because we can!
I starting buying Autocourse in 1982. Around 1990, when I gave up on the dream of being a full time Indy Car mechanic, I started making really good money. I started going backwards with the Autocourse. Got as far as 1968 and my goal is 1962 (my birth year) along the way I collected a ton of stuff. At one time I had darn near every issue of Car and Driver, been subscribing to Road and Track since 1977, Popular Hot Rodding, Car Craft and of course Hot Rod since I was in short pants. (thanks to my gearhead brother who is nine years my senior) I got rid of almost all of my magazines around 2000. GAVE THEM AWAY. ( I got married) I should have saved the covers (although through the Van craze of the mid 70's Hot Rod was kind of doggy IMO) I have been subscribing to Motor Sport for about sixteen years. I can't throw them out, even though you can get digital rights with an extra 25 bucks or so with your subscription. I had thirty years of Road And Track BOUND, IN ROAD AND TRACK BINDERS. Jesus, you need a house the size of a football field to keep all that stuff in.
I am sick with this. I don't throw anything away. Who keeps kit boxes? (ashamed to say I do, even the Sellers boxes with are about as non descriptive as you can get. Left over parts, decals, dude Im a mess in this department. My old house on McCray Street rivaled a decent museum. Im trying hard not to do this with a 2600 square foot home I live in now.
and Im into music, so there are Rolling Stone and Guitar Player magazines about as well. I also collect music, albums and CD's.
and I collect hard bound books. Not only racing books, but Pulitzer Prize winning novels. (long story, I read ALOT)
My stuff is for the most part in order, we covered the tool boxes and roller cabnits a while back. I don't throw ANYTHING away.
somebody gave me about ten years worth of Automobile Quarterly a couple of years ago. FABULOUS periodicles. They are a googy size but an absoulute treasure for reference of darn near anything automotive. You have to have the Index volumes (which I have for the years I have) but it is never ending. My frineds are mostly in their 70's and I have aquired two complete sets of "archives" for guys like me, then I bought a large cashe of archival material as a Christmas gift to myself this past December.
It's crazy. I think I am crazy.

If you're crazy, then I'm crazy! I have rooms in the house that you need to walk side ways through! Yes, I have old kit boxes! Yes I have magazines and books in the thousands! Automobilia by the tons! The people that sell my estate after my passing are going to be record-book rich! And I love it! --Frank

Guys: I am negotiating with Motorbill for a kit I will probably never build, the Auto Union Type A...that, and this thread got me to thinking, why do I keep kits that are waaaaay down the "to-do list." Since I have settled on 1/25 Indy cars, and 1/24 GP and sports cars, I have kits going to waste. Therefore, I am putting this out there, for sale (or trade):
1/20 Tamiya Renault RE30B...nib...$22 Ferrari F189.........nib...$12 Ferrari 310B........nib...$12 Ferrari 312T3......nib...$12 McLaren MP4-4..nib....$12 McLaren MP4-8...nib...$20 Benetton B192...nib...$20 Jordan 191.........nib...$12
Brabham BT50...engine built...$12 Leyton House CG901B...painted a small amount...$15
Honda RA272 w/ Thunder Valley upgrade kit...$50 Lotus 25 w/Thunder Valley upgrade kit...$50 These kits offer additional parts: metal Lotus wheels, mesh injector cover etc. I can post pictures if you are unfamiliar..about $50-$70 for upgrade new...
Last, and certainly not least, I have a Jorgenson Foyt 77 winner w/Cady and Indycals...this kit will require some skills to make nice...Pm me what you would pay including freight...highest bidder wins it (reserve is $75)...
All kits except the Foyt 77, buyer pays shipping...I can combine shipping for more than one kit...OR, TRADE! Make me an offer for 1/25 Indy cars or 1/24 GP cars... Let's have some fun! Tim
