If the car qualified for the Indy 500 during the time frame 1963-1978, the only engines that have never been in kit form are, Novi, Repco, DGS and an AMC. My final answer...http://mb2501.proboards.com/thread/5621/1964-kurtis-kraft-scratch-build.

This is getting painful. No correct guesses yet....
It's odd for our hobby but not an obscure car....

I think everyone will laugh. But from a realistic business observation, I'm starting to think, this will be the first and last time I do a kit like this....I'm afraid it's over the top.
I think everyone will be saying to me: "Calvin, you're crazy"

I'm about ready to put everyone out of their misery.... I had to scratch build the engine..... It will be a 1/12th chance someone will get it, after this clue

With all of the uncertainty and confusion I’ve got palpitations and I’m on the way to conniptions and manifestations of high anxiety. Please, please, please Calvin relieve my despair and desperation. I gotsta know. . .

Wow, what a bold idea! My only concern is the price point! I knew that question would come up and I crunched the numbers and decided I would not go over $250 for this kit.... It's not going to be easy but it's just something I really truly wanted to do. Yes it's crazy.

As you guys can see, it's going to take a huge amount of capital to produce this kit. But my business has grown enough that I'll be able to handle it.

I was never going to guess it stuck thinking in 1/25 scale. I am surprised. Model Factory Calvin! Hoping you will find enough 1/12 love to make this financially beneficial.

Pretty cool and worthy subject. Too big for me and too expensive for my retired/meager budget. You're very talented Calvin and I wish you all the best with this BIG enterprise. It has been fun guessing and forced some history study, which is always fun. I do hope you have a huge (no pun intended)success with this kit.

So it's one that I DID know about. I was thinking that this might not be 1/25 scale.... If you're going to do something in 1/12, this is a good subject, IMO.

So it wasn't underpants in the picture at the start.
It was a beach towel!
Braveheart!
Telling me mates about this one. Not my kinda subject but I do hope it starts something for you.
Bravo!

LOL I know when I bought the 1/12 scale decals from you a couple of years ago, you really got suspicious. LOL

Jordan I really don't know what to think!? It's a HUGE gamble and everyone is along for the ride on this WIP thread! LOL I just remember back when Model Factory Hiro came out with $1,000 dollar 1/12 kits, there was a huge uproar about it being too much and too expensive.....the rest is history. Will this work in the Indycar hobby? I guess we will find out? This hobby is NOT like F1 by no stretch of the imagination...

Im just thinking, if it looks right it will probably sell. I know it will be an easy kit to build as 1/12 scale is usually easier and more addictive as the motivation to get something so huge finished is common in the mind of the typical model builder.
Does a 1/12 take up more space? YES! Will it stand out in your collection? YES! Will it gain attention and start a good conversation with others seeing it? YES! Without a doubt.... Is it a bucket list build? Maybe for a hardcore builder or Foyt fan....
Why did I choose this subject? Popular car and easier car to scratch build in 1/12 and with the materials needed.

Forgive me chiming in. I am no marketing expert.
but I think this will work.
Milestone win. All those ingredients that mark it as a special win.
Legendary driver. Four wins!
The track being changed.
The speeds being reached.
The car being all American. (You can tell I have been reading allot lately about the history).
The year. Long ago, but recent enough to still be easily remembered by those who love the sport and who grew up building kits. The disposable income brigade. Post Mortgage - pre retirement.
Two 1/25th cars or one of these? I really do think the 1/25th subject will have to wait a while where some are concerned.
And there is the passion for this kinda thing. The F1 material was never always right in my opinion. Too Japanese centric. This one is. I really do believe that.
Babbling on now but I really think you may be thinking about a possible follow up 1/12th in the future. Another legendary subject from Indy.
And as a creative sort in my own field I wonder how you will feel going back to the 1/25th material after this high? Gonna feel run of the mill but I am sure it will have been worth it.

Calvin...I think it's a TOP NOTCH subject! Foyt is an AMERICAN ICON and add all the same info that Quattro just shared..it would be hard not to want to buy one for sure. I hope it's a Huge success for you. I just might interested in one if it will fit the pocket book....or...maybe sneak up on that baby piggy bank.....

I know the Indy 500 is the main theme for this beast, as it should be, but guess it would not take much to do this..... Just thinking out loud.
Nevermind who and what, but just for fun, WHEN AND WHERE?

I'm happy with your decision, but somewhat surprised it wasn't a Chaparral 2K LOL. I don't have a big enough pressure tank for a "Larger body" Chaparral 2k. The current pressure tank I have can fit the 77 Coyote. If I do another 1/12th...the 2k will be it, but I need a larger Pressure tank first...

Silverstone 1978 or Brands Hatch I could spend a half hour looking it up for sure, But I have too much work to do right now...

Too easy for Gentlemen of your expansive knowledge.
The picture is from Brands Hatch. Mears won that one. My first exposure to Indycars.
The legend did win the previous weekend at Silverstone........
