Everybo0dy.....According to Bob Laycock, "Hill didn't a pass any car on the track day. He took the weirdest lines thourgh the turns all day." Ever Graham Hill said Victory Lane, "What I'm doing here?" Russ Bob is exaggerating, as there is footage of Stewart and Hill blowing right by Clark and Hill steadily moved up throughout the race.

I guess I'm a bit late getting back to you on this subject.... Many apologies I have simply been more busy elsewhere. First I have to say how sorry I am to hear of the models accident, I've been in similar situations but usually managed to save things, Love the plans though (Has me thinking of scratch building one for myself in 1/24th. Especially with Indycals lovely looking decal sheet). As for my take on the 'ROW' re Hill and Clark, I believe Hill won. I have had the pleasure of talking to a gentleman who worked at the Indy Museum and who had perused the charts. He says it is legit'. As has been muted above I don't think STP team would have let it drop, nor Chapman for that matter, if they thought they could prove it wrong. I'm in a minority over here as most people seem to lean towards Clark as the best of the pair but Hills record speaks for itself. You don't win @ Monaco 5 times, and finish 2nd in the drivers championship three years running besides the two world titles on good luck and hard work. If that's not enough to convince anyone Graham Hill had his fair share of talent then think on this: Hill only passed his driving test in 1953. In his first year of motor racing (1956) Hill competed in 15 races and had 9 podium finishes. At the end of his third year of racing On 26th December 1958 Graham Hill sat on pole position for a BrandsHatch sports car race, in a Lotus Seven factory demonstrator, surrounded by Lotus XI's. He made a rubbish start, was swamped by other cars and had to fight his way beck through the field, eventually winning by over 7 sec's from Peter Gammon driving an 1100cc Lola. In case you think it probably wasn't a decent field I don't think Les Leston and David Piper would agree! Graham Hill is one of the worlds most underrated drivers EVER! But what do I know?!

And I should add the story goes that when Jim asked Graham if he had any doubts about whether he had won the race Graham shock his head and replied, 'I drank the milk!' regards to all Ian

I'm not sure Harlan Fengler had a drinking buddy, or any kind of a buddy for that matter. Except maybe the guy he got his red hats from.

Ian: Great to have you back! This thread has a bunch of opinions about who really won...it doesn't matter: Hill's face is on the Borg Warner...I have to agree about Hill...Clark's reputation is such that it is easy to name him, if not the greatest, at least in the top 2 or 3....but Hill was a tremendous driver...in the March 2002 issue of Motor Sport, it entails his Indy win, his GP record, and his Lemans victory...even as he aged, he could still go like hell...also, I must confess, that I was hooked by pictures of Hill in his BRM in R&T.... Now, an update on this 1 year 8 months PITA...

Almost ready for final assembley... I am sure Kevins will be a great model from seeing his recent work...it is a challenge to build; especially the suspension... Kind regards, Tim

As for USAC, I could write a book but I will just use 1981 as the prime example. Had someone other than Vern Schuppan been running third, perhaps named Ruby, Unser, Foyt or Mosley, then the penalties would have been properly assessed and both Bobby and Mario would have heavily penalized. It took them until October to keep it in house. USAC has always been a joke, even in the early days.

Do they penalize Unser and Andretti, and give the win to Foyt? NO WAY! As bad as USAC was, I don't think even they were going to allow for a 500 winner who completed only 495 miles.... 505, now that's something else

It is coming together nicely again. Both builds are very well done. I've also enjoyed the history lesson, too!

Like your build. Looking good. Remember back then you could be leaking oil & not get black flagged.

I have decided to revive this thread...it is long, and very interesting regarding G Hill and the race...the car is gone; a victim of the Great Flood...but Jaunjo Mas: the man, the myth, the legend, created a work of art in a new mold... Even the instructions are excellent... And new Hill figure from Immense Minatures... Six+ years to begin: 3 years since I got the kit...the very definition of: Better Late Than Never! Comments, questions, insight(!) welcome...I will try to make the car look like it’s ready for the start of the race, including the duct taped wind screen... Thanks for stopping by! Tim

Very nice to see you building this one. I remember not knowing about this one being available until after they were received and sold out. Glad to see you will be doing this one justice. Please do not drop this one or let it become a submersible. Looking forward to this figure getting done, glad to see that is being tackled early on. Jordan

I’ve just read this entire saga. Interesting read and cool project. At the very least you deserve the perseverance award. Looking forward to seeing this come together.

I'm so embarrassed, Tim! Seriously, if you need replacement, I think I still have some parts.
