Jaunjo: Don’t be embarrassed! Your kit is going to save this thread! The clear slot body and second scratchbuilt went under water: NOT your kit...your castings are very well done, and you even removed flash (if there was any!)...I re-read your build thread on The Indycar Board so I will modify the shocks/springs, anti-roll bar, and maybe some suspension parts to metal as per your comments...I will also do the cutout on the left rear, a new G. Hill, and the duct taped flap on the front of the windscreen... Your kit, a first time offer, is very well thought out...if I didn’t know you were an engineer, I would have guessed that you were...you solved the nose problem and the rear suspension problem that I was dealing with on the slot body... My kit says 16/25...as I have said, you could have sold a hundred of these, but you explained that you would have to remold to keep the model “crisp.”...I really wish you had nothing to do but engineer and scratch build model kits (ala Pinto), but then, like Calvin and Kevin, we would miss your outstanding WIP’s... You Catalonians are an interesting bunch: from Dali to Servia...Thanks again for this masterpiece! I hope I can do it justice... Your buddy in Texas, Tim

Tim, you are always making some of my favorite race cars. Very inspirational. I sure hope you never see another flood. I know you lost some special builds.
Looking forward to seeing your work on the Lola, I am sure it will be great.

As a recent graduate of the Calvin Sallee School of Resin Tires, this old dog learned a new trick...I always thought I was doing these just fine the old way, but I think these look much more natural...what do you guys think? Like most of you, I put the car together at times to see where the build is headed... What do you think? The research on this car continues...the Mecom boys were having problems with aerodynamics, as shown by the constant changes in windscreens, opening the hood scoop, and changes to the engine cover...will go into more details later...comments questions welcome... Tim

I think you should remove the bandanna so we can see Graham’s moustache. I always thought he looked most like a hero driver because of the ‘stache. C’mon Tim you know you should. Just slather on some glue and stick all the bits on somewhere and super detail the ‘stache. That’s what people will notice. Trust me

Well this has certianly been an education! AlwaysIndy has a history lesson with his wips. Its fun! I've heard Fengler stories, hadn't caught the '66 scoring " drama". AlwaysIndy will make it sweet. Love the driver and the exhaust. Jmho, Calvin did you right on the tires. They look great. This build has had its challenges, but it's got a super talented and experienced builder to see it home. I think the 'stache would be a trick addition. It was a Hill trademark. That said, its going to be great regardless. Looking forward to the finished car.

Tim....It's sad that the first build took a dunk'in. But....you've got another good KIT to rebuild. Love it. It's looking great too. I was wondering...how does one get a hold of one of Jaunjos' 66 Lola kits? I'd really like to build this car also...or maybe Jackie Stewarts car. Those Lolas were way to cool...they are one of my favorite open wheel cars for sure...

Gary: I am pretty sure Jaunjo has done all of these for the last time...he is a perfectionist, and worries that the molds will not produce a “crisp” model...I don’t know if anyone has one to sell...Jaunjo priced them at cost+shipping...they were the deal of the century!...As I pointed out, I wish he would pour resin full time but he has a job and family... Jaunjo: It seems there is still much interest...do you have plans for future releases?...new molds?...new subjects?... Thanks, Tim

Thank you for the reply Tim. Man...I wouldn't care if they were thirds...I'd be mighty happy to get something that even resembles a 66 LOLA.....
Hey Jaunjo...it sure would be cool to get one or maybe two of these cars.....hint...hint..;-)

Jaunjo: It seems there is still much interest...do you have plans for future releases?...new molds?...new subjects?... Thanks, Tim No plans for near future for more Lola T-90/92 kits. I made a first batch of 24 kits of Lola T-90 (20 Ford Engine / 4 Supercharged Offy) and a second batch of 18 kits for people who lost the first (13 Ford / 4 Offy). Last year I made a short batch of 8 kits for the '67 car (Lola T-92). In the future, too much projects on my mind. In addition to some Lola T-90/92 batch, maybe the Lola T-150/152 family and its derivates (VPJs, Colts, ...)

In 1966, aerodynamics were in their infancy...the Mecom boys seemed to be having “turbulence in the cockpit” of the Hill car...plastic was tried... On both sides... By race day, the car had changed in many ways...in this picture notice the duct tape beneath Hill’s helmet... This is on both sides and holds a piece of clear that extends to the roll bar... Other changes were made to the engine cover...the left side was opened up, and most everybody noticed that:but the driver’s side was also opened up...a million pictures of the left side and 2 of the right side I’m guessing for cooling? Also, as best I can tell, the exhaust was white all May, but gold for the race...the hood scoop is closed all May but opened up for race day...Craig and I have discussed the many times that race day cars are very different from gualifying cars...a good example, the 62 M/T car was white all May and blue in the race... Because of the length of this thread, I must have seen several million photos of this car! Trying to make it as close as possible...the Mustache will have to be somehow incorporated, thanks to Dan.. Thanks for stopping by! Tim

I too am having some regrets in not ordering one of Juanjo’s kits when they were available. I’m personally still not satisfied with the outcome of the 1966 500, but most of you know I’m a bit prejudice. That being said, the 1966 Lola that has really interested me in the last few years is the car driven by Roger Ward. I first saw a model of just the very unique engine at the GSL years ago, and it really intrigued me. I started looking into it more when I was talking with Stu as he did his 1/18th scale model of Ward’s car. A couple of weeks ago I was at The Museum of Speed near Portland and to my surprise and delight here’s what I found. I hope you don’t mind me injecting this into your thread Tim. I’m really enjoying your build. Paul Erlendson

Paul: The 65 Foyt and the 66 Lola side by side...Outstanding!...I believe that Craig is working on this model...it is the only Offy Supercharged, rather than turbocharged, car I know of...in this thread, it dawned on me that the Ward car and Stewart car were teamates...Ward, Hill, and Stewart: pretty much a superteam in hindsite...Sir Jackie won Rookie of the year because it was his race until 10 laps to go...This car, with Ward, won the Trenton 150 before Indy...after Indy, Ward never drove again... If I remember correctly, when Juanjo made the T90 originally, he also made a model of the Ward car with the supercharged Offy. He did not offer it for sale that I know of. His skills always amaze me, he is a very talented modeler.
That Lotus 34 was one I sat on the back wheel of at PIR after Foyt won the Bobby Ball Memorial race in 1965. I was in victory lane wanting to meet Mr. Foyt. He looked at us like we were from another planet and otherwise did not acknowledge our presence. I do recall that the Lotus was the most beautiful car there and the paint work was amazing. The other car that stood out that day to me was the Brawner Hawk of Andretti, also very striking to the eye.
At the time I was 18 and a model builder. I always wanted a model of both cars and thanks to the talent of Lance I am going to have both on my shelf sometime soon. The only other wish I havc would be to be 18 again:) I guess I have to settle for 2 out of 3!

As Tim said, I am working on the Roger Ward car, at a snails pace. So far As you can see there is still lots to do. I don't know for sure if the supercharged offy car was offered for sale. I got it as a gift from Tim, who is the "go to" guy for info on Juanjo. It did come in a labeled, and illustrated box, so I assume they were for sale. As I recall. Juanjo sold these kits for $35 with decals (a fantastic deal). I am blown away at the quality of this kit, for someone who had no experience as a resin caster.

Update: I was concerned about the nose/ scoop...I used a hybrid of Cady, Indycals, and paint... Various sub assemblies... And Dan was right; Hill has to show his mustache so I am building it as it stopped for the red flag in 1966... And a look ahead... We are headed to the finish line... Comments/ questions/ corrections are welcome...thanks for stopping by! Tim

I don't know if many of you have meet Graham Hill or Jackie Stewart ?
I meet Graham Hill at the French GP ,at Charade ,in 1972 ,juste after his triple crown victory at Le Mans ,with Matra. I was a young french boy and I talk 5 minutes with him .He was at Brabham with the new BT37 .He was very abordable ,a little amazing than I speek to him in English ,and ,to help me he pays attention to speek "slowly" . For me a great moment with a great champion and a great Man.
I meet Jachie Stewart several time . The first time it was in Clermont-Ferrand downtown ,in 1969 ,on thursday before French GP . They were ,with Ken Tyrrell, in front of the Auto Club office , I was teenager . I try to talk with them with my school english .At first they smile ,but they stop and take 2 minutes to talk wih me. Two good guys .On sunday they win the GP and at the end of the year they were "World Champions" , and ,for me ,they became "the exemples". I meet them several time later ,but I was "in the Formula one family" and it was a little different . (When Jean Alesi was at Tyrrell (1989) , we ofen speak with him and some time I talk with Ken Tyrrell or Harvey Postlethwaite (not about the actual car),but about the "old good time".)
Now we are retired from racing and we meet some time during "historic" events . At 80 , he stay "Jackie" . A great Champion and a great "little" big man . -------------------
I discover the Junjo's kits , and I appreciate the level of the job.
Dominique.
PS:I don't forget that ,if at the beginning there is a good model ,after it need a good buider ,and Tim does a good job to show it to advantage .

Dominque: My auto racing and modeling careers began in 1965 or so...in F1, the BRM team of Hill and Stewart caught my eye...I liked both drivers: the assured veteran Hill and the rookie with skills, Stewart...extremely cool for you to meet both! Update: rounding Turn 4 and headed to the finish line on this build... Details to add with windscreen, mirrors, dash, roll bar, anti sway bar, and the rear is not glued on just yet... A very LONG build but it is getting close... Thanks for looking! Comments, suggestions welcome! Tim
