Could be the best thread on here ever! Jordan Actually to be honest with you all, if it wasn't for you guys keeping me motivated, I'd probably have gave up. Because these scratch builds, like I said can really "stomp on a persons confidence" For a person that likes to see results FAST, its tough to stay focused on this at sometimes. But anyhow this is the current state. After I put the Petty Johncock Blue on it looked really cool but....as usual I noticed more things wrong, but once agian there fixable Im still not 100% on the top part of the nose? Im just not seeing it, something is bugging me about it but still cant put my finger down on what it is? I also need to fix the roll bar, what I have is too close. I think once this car is done and casted W/ the day glow red on and the awesome looking Indycals it will be breath taking! ;D Something kinda "donged" in my head today that I didn't real give much thought of before hand, but I have an 82 Wildcat! This is actually build-able in the state it currently is in!....The one car that most of us have wanted for years or even decades!

I'm in the decades column too! I agree on the nose - in the first pic I'm seeing too much curvature leading up to the windshield.

As seen in the pics bellow I need to work on the front nose curves some more, they are just missing that final touch. Im still not totally seeing what is wrong with the top around the windscreen? Michael I do see what you mean about the curvature. I might try just fixing that first and then see what happens from there. This is a very tricky nose I'd have to say. I need to work on those lines in the pic above and kinda put more of a radius on them. My nose is currently too "Sharp" its not rounded up enough IMO.

Man....my cockpit sides toward the head is totally wrong, way, way to narrow. What the heck was I thinking?!?! I think maybe that is one of the reasons why my top nose around the windscreen area looks so off is because the the rest of the cowling funnels down to small? The Head rest part of the cowling and the front windscreen part of the cowling are not working together.
I hope this all makes sense?

Calvin, I think you nailed it. Maybe once those areas are widened slightly, the nose area will be ok? I say fix those first and then re-visit the nose.
I must say that we all owe you a great dept having put so much work into this car. Your passion to get it right is really impressive.

Thanks Calvin, it's a WIP like this that makes us appreciate all the work that goes into just making a master for a resin kit. Then the added process of producing a kit, just check out Lance's garage area of what goes into a resin kit. Not to mention great decals(like Michael makes) and vac-windshields and detail parts. Thanks to all the guys that contribute to our hobby.
Can't wait to see your completed Wildcat Calvin! I think you just about nailed the shape of the car.

I think what Michael is getting at with the curvature is this. If you place a straight edge on the nose from the tip to the windscreen, the straightedge should connect all the way along. I'm seeing a convex curve to that path, like you would see on a Reynard but of course not to nearly the same extent.

This is so cool to see the progress you make on this as you go along. So, do you think you could do the Penske and the March? If Michael would do the decals, we could do the front row, or the first three finishers.

This is going great! Can't wait to get my hands on one. This is really giving me some inspiration, but I can't build anything until I move into my new place. Can't wait though. Looks like 2011 is the year for Indy kits. Nic

I'm still seeing a bit of the curve in the nose up near the windshield. More so in the bottom picture, but also a bit in the one above it.

Calvin, I got to thinking about the roll bar issue and width of the cockpit and thought the best way to correct this would be to cut the car in half right down the middle and shim it. Not to make more work for you and you may think I am crazy (I am a bit) but I think it might work. This will however make the whole car slightly wider (including the nose) and you will have to re-work it. I did a simple drawing per say taking one of your original pictures and re-did it in MS Paint below. This is just a suggestion so you can tell me to "fly a kite" if you want too. You're the one doing the work after all. Stu [img src="http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu127/sbenford/Wildcat.jpg" img]

Stu, I think I'll pass on cutting the car in half but I think I'm fixing the problems.... Thank you for your support!!! Ok guys what are thinking of it now? Try your best to look past the different shades of color, I'll try my best to get it all back to blue so you guys can see it better. IMO this light blue helps me out way more than the dark blue.

The nose profile looks good and straight but in the other views it still doesn't look right. I'm seeing a slight curve that I don't think should be there. now maybe it's the photo, but this green line shows how I 'think' it should look.

Yep, your totally right Michael. Thanks for catching that. It really helps to have extra eyes looking because I have my eye all over the place on this body and its easy to miss stuff.

Better, but if you look where they yellow resin meets the white putty, there is a curve there going from top to bottom - again I think that should be more straight. I think that is the root of the issue. Compare to this pic posted by Dr. Dave

Keep up the great work Calvin. I know you won't stop until everything is perfect and to your liking. I had a conversation with Russ last week and we both came to the conclusion that you were born to be a model builder. Some people were blessed with certain "gifts". I have a friend that can remember any number and compute things in his head without paper or a calculator. That's his gig.
Model building is your's and it definitely inspires all of us.

I've been doing a lot of R&D lately and a lot of testing, checking, measuring. I also found some pics of the bottom of the car that confirms that the Wildcat Does have a belly pan under the engine (which was easy to assume anyway)
"But all in all" (as AJ Foyt says) things are coming together.
