Clear coat is on the ol' JS11 everything went smooth.... Just a little orange peal, not much....I did the last coat a little too heavy and it must of dried to fast, but not bad. I give the paint job an A- for my skill level.....Now the details are next.

I guess I will show whats been going on in the Ligier Department. Overall its been very fun! I ran into one problem I need to warn you guys about and thats the Exhaust pipe Colector...there is two types in the kit and I used the wrong one. Make sure to use C-44 its the black one that is smaller. I used A 21? which its molded in Grey and larger....all I can say is it made life hard on me I was wondering why I was having so much trouble with the pipes? Well thats why I did notice the other collectors 'tel just now. I tried to take good pictures so you can see all my mistakes. Not to much to go and its done

D'oh!
Aside from that it's looking really good. If you haven't glued it down, I would strip the roll bar and paint it. I painted mine testors metalizer Magnesium - seems to match the photos I saw. What did you use to paint the aluminum tub?

What did you use to paint the aluminum tub? Yes your right the roll bar isn't chrome, I almost forgot. thanks for reminding me. Actually I noticed on the real car they welded peaces of roll bar together on top....I forgot the correct word to call that? They didn't use a tubing bender for some reason. Anyway...I used Testors chrome for the Aluminum tub, which takes for e v e r... to dry. I didn't do that good of a job on this one but my Williams FW07 I did came out perfect. I'm not touching this car 'tel tomorrow, I know better than to work on a model when Im upset.

Hate to highjack your thread Calvin (beautiful build by the way), but I have started my build of the Heller 1/12 kit and need some info. Does anyone know when the JS-11 gained wings and lost the engine cover? Did the JS-11 have the engine cover but no wings? Did the JS-11/15 lose the engine cover and gain wings? Or is it the other way round? EDIT: So it IS the other way round... 1979 JS-11, no engine cover and front wing. 1980 JS-11/15, engine cover and no front wings. The Heller kit is of the second photo and I'm trying to figure out which races used which version.

Your top picture is the 1980 JS11, which gained the engine cover and lost the front wings and the type-face of GITANES changed. The bottom is the 1979 JS11, I beleve there was little to no change to the body in 1979(?) The tamiya kit is 1979

Damn, that is a nice conversion of the JS-11/15! Until reading that second thread, I didn't notice that the 80 car didn't have the lip on the sidepods. I may have to build my 1/20 Tamiya kit as a JS-11/15!
I noticed he used TS44 for the paint, I was going to use TS10.

Use TS10.
Trust us, don't trust the pictures as cameras had a hard time with blue back then and always made everything darker than what it really was.

I can check. It makes the car sharpe. But one thing usually overlooked is that sidepods were slanted on the 11/15 while horizontal on the 11. I mean the main surface. That makes the sidepods thicker at the rear. Also the shape and sze of the nose shaped thing before the rear wheels changed in height too. Last but not least, bugatti style fuel tank cover replaced by lower thing. Also bear in mind Tamiya's nose is to thock, too high...
