I've been trying to buy the 1:18 Carousel One 1959 Roger Ward winner for several years, and all have been overpriced, or i've been snipped at the last second on eBay. What Watson roadster can be used, and what changes need to be made to convert something to it?
Thanks, Jeff

Jeff: If it was me, I’d buy Calvin’s “generic Watson kit”...then find the old AMT ‘63 winner (Ole Calhoun)...remove 1/4” from the front axle, adjust suspension and build as shown...use Calvin’s resin pieces for nose, hood, windscreen and oil tank...only problem? Michael(Indycals) does not make the decals...I don’t know if Gary(GWS) has ever attempted them...you’ll need somebody’s leftovers who built the ‘60 winner instead because the Etzel kit had both... Hope this helps! Tim

I'm very real and up front about my generic Watson conversion. Its made for the model builder that wants to mostly work with a traditional plastic kit (AMT/MPC Watson Roadster) and they aren't worried about it being 100% accurate. I've never built one of my own but I've seen a few that have and they look awesome. But if you want the best of the best and highly accurate, then nothing beats the Chris Etzel Watson Roadster. I made my conversion kit because I was asked all the time to come out with a basic generic kit to transform the Old Calhoun.

Sorry guys, I'm talking about the 1:18 Carousel 1 die cast for conversions, not a 1:25 model.

... and i kind'a messed that up. '62 does have a air intake. Canned hams ( oil tanks) are back by the rear wheels on '61 & '62. '59 and '60 are forward by the front wheels. Back is the same, save '59 has no "bumper/ pushbar". A good " donor" car if you go C1, i'd consider a '60 Rathman. Alot more common and i know i have seen them go for 40 bucks or so on Evilbay.Only other difference is Rathman has an angled exhaust. Wards '59 is straight cut off. If Gary will make your decals, thats one way Boss. Hope i atleast helped some.
( if my Uncle knew i messed up Roadsters that bad.... I would most likely still hear about it the next day.... and again later)

Thanks, that's a huge help. I display all of my winners, and I'm just over trying to find that one car.

Jeff, I think your best bet is to get the Dean Van Lines Eddie Sachs roadster. Use Easy Lift Off (my suggestion) or Fingernail polish remover to take off the decals and Boom! You have an already all white car that you don't have to take apart and repaint. Work slow and be careful. Get the decals from Michael or Gary and away you go. Then, you have Stu (myself, LOL) send you the correct tail pipe. All you will need to do is carefully drill a hole in the body for the longer tail pipe to attach too!

Looking closer you will need to repaint the roll bar. Be careful of the Eddie Sachs decal on the windscreen. That piece is plastic and Easy Lift off will remove the paint. Best bet is to use diluted finger nail polish remover on it.

I considered the Dean Van lines car. Should'a known superman would have the correct exhaust. Thats what stopped me from that, but Stu is right. Having an all white car would help you. Enough experience here that its going to get straightened out.:-)
