Good question. Does anyone know what happened to Bill Jorgensen's molds for the Blue Crowns? They might be a source. Thanks, Jim

I started upgrading Bill's master several years ago but stopped when Gary came out with his. I re-did the louvers but am still not happy with them and still need to do a new grill for it. As Bill and Gary both sold a lot of these I have doubts as to how many I could sell.

I've got one of Jorgenson's and one of Doucette's. I'd love to have one of these to complete the set.

The reality is that a the previous released Blue Crowns won't hold a candle to what Lance could do with it.

Michael is right, Lance’s Blue Crown would far outstrip anything currently available.

Considering I was born in 1947, i always considered building a '47 Blue Crown Special. Lance if you decide to make one, I am in also!

Remember, those cars ran with other drivers on into the early 50s. There are LOTS of possibilities.

It still sits on my desk and I still do not know what I want to do with the grill, I have seen attempts to use photo etch and have never liked the results, anybody have any thoughts on the subject?

Lance, not knowing this car well, what are you wanting out of the grill?

I'll be very interested if anyone could come up with a good way to make that grill.

I would try to do it with 0.3/0.4mm soft steel wire, helped with a jig for shaping, as I did on these Mercedes W154/Maserati 8CTF (0.6 mm wire on both) And Lance, you can count me for 1 or 2.

Juanjo,
The grills look great - do you have any photos that show how you do it, especially how you join the wires?
I've been wrestling with how to do a grill on a hot rod model I'm working on & I want to try your technique
Thanks for sharing,
Jim

Photo etch just does not take well to being bent in multiple directions to conform to compound curves. I think I will give Juanjo's idea some more though and try to visualize what the jig may need to look like.

I ask this admitting total ignorance with regard to what the process would entail technologically and monetarily, but what about 3D printing?

I do not know but it is worth looking into, maybe Michael could give us his thoughts on this. The master needs to be able to be strong enough for molding, or maybe a 3d part by itself could work, cost is something to consider.

I was thinking a separate part, but cost would certainly be a factor to do it this way.

First outer edge, then each wire curved, cut, and glued with CA. An additional wire was placed between each one for assure the same spacing. Mercedes, jig was a tube, as you can see spiral wire in the first photo. Nose was prepared making holes at proper distance. Then cut and glued with CA.
