Started the Silver City Models resin '84 Eagle. Painted the tires with Tamiya german grey then shot the side walls with semi gloss black. Used a stencil for the good year. Sprayed the wheels with Molotow chrome. Masked the body with tamiya masking tape and shot the candy red on. So, my question is. The side of the chassis, along the front suspension, should that be painted white or was it polished aluminum? Craig

Looks great beautiful tires and wheels. Fantastic job on the masking. I have one question what brand and color did you use for the body?

Looks great beautiful tires and wheels. Fantastic job on the masking. I have one question what brand and color did you use for the body? Joe Well.......I own a body shop. So, all the paint is left over urethane we've used on real cars. The red uses a base color from a Ford tri color. In fact I thought the base was a little dark so I added some silver too it. Think of it as a pinkish metallic strawberry color. Then I sprayed over that with three coats of House Of Kolor candy red. The same effect could be had by using a silver base with the clear red that Tamiya makes. I hope that helps. BTW, I clear all my models with urethane clear. Dries fast and hard, can be polished. That photo above has no clear yet. Craig

What tire stencil are you using? It was a set made by Wave. It includes a stencil for each scale, 1/43, 1/24, 1/20 and 1/12. I bought it at least 15 years ago.

I looked at my "Dan Gurney's Eagle Racing Cars" book and while it does not have a picture of the 1984 car that would answer your question, it has one of the 1986 car, in the shop, up on trestles. The area behind the suspension pick up points is painted. The bare chassis starts right behind the rear pick-up point and is about twice the distance of the top of the pick up point from the bottom of the chassis. It then steps up to about twice that height at a point just about behind the back side of the top A-arm, by the spinde. That would all be behind the side pods anyway. In another photo, the bare chassis area is under masking paper, but the bodywork has been painted as I described.

Here's a quick update. Decals on, ready for clear coat. I had to add the "Red Roof Inn" decals in place of the "Botany 500". As they where not provided on the decal sheet. Not correct but better than letting the model sit unfinished.

Latest update. Clear has been applied and dust nibs polish out. Cockpit done. I decided to spray the monocoque with Molotow chrome instead of trying bare metal foil. I just know the foil will wrinkle. Does anybody know if the right hand side fuel filler block off plate should be body color or aluminium? Thanks, Craig

I really like this. Your attention to detail is something to behold. I can't find a right side picture of this car so I don't know if the fuel filler cover should be painted or not. In looking at other cars of that era, most of them were painted to match the color scheme so I think you are good as you are unless someone has a picture to know for sure. Keep going. Jim
