Today's update. I painted the inside of the side pods black and cut some aluminum mesh to represent the surface of the radiators. Used some five minute epoxy to hold them in place and followed that with some dull coat to hide the shine of the glue. Moved onto a way too mount the wheels. Because there's no mounting hole or peg on the inside of the wheels. I decided to cut some round plastic tube too slide over the small front spindles and cut and glue some discs to that. Those will be painted black and glued directly to the back of the wheels. More dull coat will be needed to hide the glue threw the spokes. The rears are done the same way except for the plastic tube over the spindle/hub. While test fitting the rear suspension and wheels I noticed the track may be too narrow. I'll add another plastic disc as a spacer if that holds true latter. Thanks for the comments and help everyone, Craig

Looks outstanding! What did you use to clear the Molotow to allow the application of the decals on the sides?

Craig, I'm completely in awe of your build which is brilliant to say the least. The trick of the really gifted builders is to make it look easy enough for us mere mortals to give it a try, and then find out just how difficult it is to do what you've accomplished. Joel

I decided a little late in the game too add one of Indycals 3D printed fuel fillers. I had to bore a pretty big hole in the side of the body for it. Bad enough when painted but worse with this candy red paint, one chip and it would have been impossible to touch up. Some drilling, grinding with a Dremel and some careful carving with sharp #11 and it all worked out. Those 3D printed fillers are sure worth it. I made the exhaust pipes from aluminum tube. Sure beats cleaning up white metal. Also cut some brass rod for the under tray supports for the same reason. Painted the front a-arms white and cleared them just for the front rose joint covers then brushed the rest semi gloss black. Also shot the roll bar with Molotow chrome. Craig

Craig, I'm following your build and taking notes along with saving appropriate pictures as one of my goals is to be able to build some of the SilverCityModel Indy cars. While I'm aways from upping my game enough to attempt such a venture, your explanations coupled with technically perfect pictures is quite a learning experience.
Just one neophyte question: do the instructions have enough detailed information for a 1st timer to complete one of the simpler kits that don't need a full engine/trans built up?

Joel Well Joel, none of my Silver city kits have come with instructions. Of coarse there's always advice from this board to help you threw things. As you can see I've needed some my self. As far as first time resin kits go, I would strongly recommend Fisher Model Works. There kits are finely cast, simple and well engineered for ease of assembly. Most would go along nicely with your 917. Hope that helps, Craig

I am not sure why you have not received a CD with instructions in any of the kits that you have bought from me but let me know and I will gladly send you what you need. The only full kit that did not have CD instruction included was the Arco Graphite kit which was one of my first kits. I remember posting step by step instuctions on the board at that time. Unfortunately photo bucket eliminated many of our photos for the instruction. Silver City Models

I just put it back in and first time I opened it it just showed me the pictures. I tried a second time with a different driver and up pops the instructions! Boy, could have used them earlier. I didn't mean to step on your toes Kevin. I was hopping you'd chime in. Craig

To which I'll add that Kevin is great if you have trouble with the instructions document file or anything else in a Silver City kit. I know from my own experience that when a kit is missing a part or if I can't get an instructions CD to work, a quick request to Kevin and he will cheerfully make things right.
If the world had more folks like Kevin....

Craig, I've been eyeing a few of Fisher's Can AM kits, and just might make one or two my entry into the world of resin when I feel I'm ready to up my game.

Straight forward, good engineering, nothing complicated, great for first timers or experienced builders alike. I have his McLarens and Chaparral Can Am's (Ferrari 312's, Cunningham and Jag also). Recommended! BTW, Historic Racing Miniatures has an excellent resin Chaparral 2 repopped from the Cox slotcar/curbside model kit. Recommended also. Sandy

Craig, Your build is simply incredible. Not even taking into consideration that it's a resin, limited run kit, it's just outstanding. The paint and decaling is perfect. Thanks so much for sharing your build with us.
