Pole winner, race winner, and sentimental/dark horse.
Pole - Dario Franchitti Race - Scott Dixon Sentimental/dark horse - Tony Kanaan (only because the Andretti luck seems to have carried over to TK)

Pole: Briscoe Winner: Franchitti
I guess there are a few one-off or part-time drivers I basically just want to see do well, and if they were to be a darkhorse winner, all the better: John Andretti, Sarah Fisher, Buddy Lazier. And then there is Vitor Meira. He's got two things going for him in my book: he's been so close and I can't help but wish he'd get over that hump, and I'd love to see #14 back at the top. And for work connection reasons, I'm obligated to pull for Dan Wheldon as well.

I'm as much an Andretti fan as Jordan is a Mears fan, so..............
Pole: Tony Kanaan Normally I'd pick Danica Patrick, but there's just something wrong on many levels with saying I want to see Danica sitting on the Pole.
Race: Marco
Sentimental: Scott Sharp
Darkhorse: Vitor Miera (can he really be considered a darkhorse?)

Nice job Kitbash1 on callng the pole - I didn't see anyone else get it right but with the competition the way it is these days it is not easy to know who's going to put it all together when it is time to step up.
Helio sounded confident about race day but sheez that's no guarentee in this field!! If we get a good, exciting, and safe 500 then I will be happy regardless of who wins.

Jordan oldcalhoun also got it right. This is shaping up to be a really competitive race with multiple leaders and teams having a good shot to win.

From where I sit, it's Penske's race to lose. If you haven't seen practice, none of the other cars are in their league right now.

Does that include the #12, too? I think Mario Moraes did a great job getting in on day one when the other 10 cars were the heavy hitters of the IRL - Penske, Ganassi, AGR, & NHL!! Looks like the day 2 and 3 qualifiers with probably all be long shots at best....

From where I sit, it's Penske's race to lose. If you haven't seen practice, none of the other cars are in their league right now. Don't you wonder how that happens? I mean the cars are supposed to be the same, right? So that must mean the Penske team trims their cars out better than the other teams. Then it's left up to the talent of the drivers.

Fair or foul, it's all about shocks and other pieces and parts these days. The cars are the same on paper. Penske makes lots of his own bits, including suspension and exhaust (1 HP is almost a mile an hour at Indy). They spare no effort on R&D and let's not forget they own the shock company. No one can believe customers get what the house cars are running. Throw in two of the best drivers in the world, near perfect preparation and execution and you have a formula for another Indy win. As for Will Power, his car is less trimmed out but he will have a nice car race day. His lack of experience at the Brickyard might keep him from winning but he just might. It's Helio-Briscoe 1-2.

As much as it looks like Team Penske will or should walk away with a win, I can't help thinking back to the race, 1992 I think, that both Emmo and Mears were involved in the same wreck. And of course last year, when Tony Kanaan had a car that could win, he was forced into the junk by Marco.
I don't want to see anyone crash but anything can happen and it usually does. As Bobby Unser once said, "The most foolish thing in the world is to predict who will win the Indy 500." That said, I've made my prediction, so I'm a fool.

1992 is an interesting study <large ramble on nuances of race omitted> of how the fastest race cars don't always win the 500. That said, the last several 500s have been won by the fastest car and if Helio has the best car in the race then I like his chances!

Jordan Not sure if you listen to the podcast of that Kevin and Cavin radio show, but they broke the field into 3 categories: The contenders, 2nd level and everyone else. Their Contenders were: Helio, Briscoe, Dario, Dixon, Kanaan Next Level: Wheldon and maybe Marco Everyone else; no explanation needed I have to agree that if nothing strange happens (like in 1992 with the cold and all the crashes), then it should be "#3 for #3"

As racing legend and three time winner Wilbur Shaw used to say, "This is why we run the race every year." There is always the "THE UNKNOWN FACTOR" which can raise it's ugly head during the race....Like in 1`963 with th Team Lotus long pit stops, or 1982 when Cogan bounced off of the front row, or 1992 with the very cold weather......It's a crap shoot. Just remember, I got the pole correct.....
Best to you

This might be the year of the "long shot." Mine that Bird was a 50 to 1 shot at the Kentucky Derby. Who knows we might get someone we didn't expect for once, wouldn't that be a great story?
