Very cool honor, Art. I always loved this build. What great mastery from Lance on the kit and you on the build. Makes for a killer combo! Jordan Thanks, Jordan. I was very humbled, and Lance's kits are just awesome.

To me, that is high praise, because I am in such awe of what you can do. And Calvin, you're just awesome. I'm looking to build one of your kits someday too. Both you guys are super talented.

Well. How about that?
I was amazed by the account of Art getting to hand over this model the way it happened. Just messing about with toy cars are we? Great stuff.
And Art's build has inspired me. Lance had been a diamond geezer and sent me a set of drawings of the car. Now if I can get mine half as good as wot Art did......

Chaps
I have been away a while fully immersed on the 'dark side' building up all manner of racers for a couple of early season events.
Art. Thank you. I may well come back and ask about some aspects of your build. First thing that comes to mind is that metallic blue on the nose and the rear. What colour is it? But getting ahead of myself here. Got some 1983 F1 material to test buld for one bash and then..... Try to get it all done for an American themed event taking place over here in July.

Gents many of you at Indy. Got it all going on here on my TV. Month of May. No better time to immerse myself. Lance sent me the drawing after Arts build inspired me. Quick bit of info on why. Do an American racing themed event with slot cars every July here in the UK. Nascar, Trans Am, Can Am and front and rear engined USAC racers. For all the Sunoco Blue, Mclaren Papaya and STP red that we see on most of the cars raced from the 1950s to 1974, I thought a proper stars and strips livery would stand me in good stead in the Concours element. So.... Started this on Thursday and got this far. Now saturday morning and got a whole couple of days ahead of me to get on with it. It has to fit over a chassis and motor so some bitz might be slightly off and hope Art does not mind but simply eyeballed what he achieved on his wonderful model at the rear. It runs nicely so now on to the decor. That is gonna be fun.....!

Quattro, Regarding the blue, it wasn’t metallic on my build. I got some One Shot pinstriping enamel blue that happened to be a perfect match to the decals. The red was also One Shot, and I thinned it with lacquer thinner.

Art
Blimey! I cannot work out if it is really early or super late where you are.
Thank you for that and the thumbs up.
That blue. I have no decals to follow so may just paint those elements onto the model. I have reference of the current car but always worry about using 'historic' liveries as ref given things do change with the owners over time. Just have a good long look at the pics of your model and the car of the time.
A quickie for the historians. These slot beasties have a driver figure in them. I presume these guys were racing with seat belts/harnesses by this time. I believe that belts were mandatory in the USA before they found their way into single seaters in Europe. I think by the late 60s it was standard in USAC. Must go back and have a good look at builds from this period including Art's masterpiece.

It even had a star on the seat! Belts in red. Got it.

Hello Chaps. Watching developments at Indy like most of you at the mo. Progress. Tad scruffy in places and settled on my own mix of blue which is on the 'historic' car. Off to draw up the main decals and dig out my stock of supplier decals. Will deal with the silver deflectors under the nose, the 'chimney' stack and the driver/cockpit area next.

Done it! If you are gonna do an Indy car, get it done in May I say! Hope you chaps all have a good weekend at the Speedway or in front of your TVs. OK. So there are certain things I got wrong or just do yet have to complete the model but I am happy with it. And it runs smoothly. Slightly wider than it should be tub to accommodate the chassis mount points. Front suspension comes back a tad too far. Have to attach simulated suspension to the shell as the wheels will turn. Do not want to foul them of have anything touching them. No Owner or driver decal as yet. Will change the front wheels for a better hub in time. Driver sits a tad too high. Need to do the 'Ruby' on the lid. Oh. And I did the version from the pics I had so I know the Cable vision logo was slightly different as well as the supplier stickers from the kit Lance put out which I presume was the race version. What have I got. Practise? Qualifying? And the star decals? WW2 US armoured vehicle decals. But it is done. Thank you Lance. Thank you Art. Have a great weekend everyone.

It has occurred to me that this material should perhaps have been posted on a separate thread.
But given it all spawned from what was so well produced by Lance and so well built by Art (along with the lovely account of the presentation of the model in Texas) I kept it on here, more as a hat tip to these two Gents and what their work inspired me to have a go at. That and learn even more about that period of racing at the Brickyard.
It was never intended as a hi jacking of a thread. Call it Son of Mongoose if you will!

Wow, it looks fantastic! I certainly don’t mind it on this thread. It’s a great prologue to this car.
