This car looks to be a rather easy conversion based on the Monogram Kurtis. Are there any readily available decals with the Dean Van Lines logo? Thanks, Trevor Hosted on Fotki

Bob Clindinst has the drawings for the Kuzma cars, and they are very good as all his drawings are!

Thanks, Trevor Hosted on FotkiHI Trevor, I missed the question on the decals first time around, sorry. I do not know of any, but I would say my best guess is that *possibly* Fred Cady did some that could be used. Unfortunately, the *older* cars do not get much response here......... Mongo

HI Trevor
I have recently acquired an Etzel Kuzma Offy kit. It had the Bryan decals. Maybe someone has some they didn't use when they built their kit. (??)

Update! Fred did a sheet which will do the car. I don't have the sheet number handy right now, but it does the #12 Eddie Sachs Dean Van Lines Watson, also, as well as A.J.'s Kuzma Offy Champ car #29.

Thanks for the Fred Cady decal info guys. I've started making some changes to the Monogram Kurtis. I assembled all the body panels then sectioned the height 1mm. The headrest fairing was removed and the tail was cut off so it could be reattached with less droop. Next up is adding putty to the body sides and sanding the body corners down to better capture the rounder section of the Kuzma. I may rework the tail some more as I don't think I have the shape quite right. Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

You and I are working along the same lines, please keep the photos coming. The IMS photo archives section has some good shots of the cockpit area. It is quite crude on this car. Craig

Looks great!!! Keep up the good work and I do hope you pan to put this into rubber and offer copies? I have a solution for the wheels and tires for you, when you are ready for them.
Best to you!

Not much progress. I have sanded some of the obvious imperfections and added guide strips for putty application. The putty will be glopped on and when I sand down to the level of the strip I'll know I have reached the correct thickness. I can then feather the putty on the sides of the body into the top and bottom creating the rounder section I'm after. Hosted on Fotki

Looks very good so far. I am keeping up since I will need to do a Kuzma for Foyt's '58 car.

Since Calvin is pushing for WIPs I've picked this up again. I wasn't happy with the shape at the front so I've done more chopping and putty slinging. I'll post some pics later.

Trevor,
Michael P. also makes the Dean Van Lines decals for Eddie Sachs, but I don't know if they're the right size for what you need.

My Dad & I did the artwork for this car a couple of years ago for the 1/18th version I am working on. Maybe we can talk a certain decal maker (hint...hint) into taking this and making it more professional??? Stu

Here we are approaching the paint stage one more round of sanding and then hopefully paint. I'm rather frustrated that with all the putty and sanding it's still not as rounded in section as it should be. I think I'll live with it thought. Hosted on FotkiHosted on Fotki

Hosted on Fotki
IMO you could add a lot more putty to the center part of the nose section. But that's just my suggestion. For how much work you will put into this, an extra 2 more days of putty and sanding would be worth it.

Hosted on Fotki
But looking at this pic, it almost looks like you do have the correct radius? I might be just seeing things - its hard to tell from looking at a flat grey primer nose.

Calvin I think you might be right. I think I'll slap a little colour on it tonight and shoot some more pics from a couple different angles. Do you like my WIP title ?

I hate to mention this but as reading the thread it said you planned to eventually make a mold and cast this. I would love to have this as a kit and model for my collection. Would it be possible to add a headrest as one of the parts since several of the Kuzma's had them? Would you also consider also doing the distinctive oil cooler that was on the D-A Lubricant, Schmidt Brothers, and Agajanian cars? Sorry but those of us out here just can't get enough. Jim
