I just thought I would do a WIP of my own 1911 Winner. Back in 1911 there was....nevermind!.... I think everyone already knows the story.....I guess I really don't need to explain much besides I'm currently trying like heck to get these parts replicated as best as I can in resin....I'm going to have to redo some as some had some issues. 3D parts are tricky to make molds off of as the 3D part has the tendance to be very abrasive and the rubber just loves to stick to it. Once all these things are figured out it should be a pretty impressive kit!

Just finished the initial layout of the decals (I say initial as I will probably have to tweak it to fit). Note this kit is for the 'as raced' version of the car, which is different from what you see in the museum, most notably the numbers and the shape of the tail.

Awesome! Nothing better than decals! Well, I just got done casting ever single part of this kit. It's officially achievable! If I wanted to I can build a complete kit right now! LOL Like I said above I need to re-mold some parts. I'll show a picture of all the parts together later! It's pretty exciting! Without the very special thin resin I use or the pressure tanks that Duane Brown gave me....this would not even be possible! I will not lie these parts are not easy what so ever to do, it takes a tremendous amount of perseverance to get them all to come out acceptable.

Thank you, Michael, for doing the "as raced" decals. Even Ray Harroun, when shown the fresh restoration, said he "didn't remember it being quite so yellow." --Frank

Thanks Calvin and Michael for all the hard work on this project, it should be well received when it's ready. John

Hey John! Do you have any family that was born in 1911?.....since you like to build winners from years that certain family members were born on! LOL! The reason I make fun of you on this subject is because I would think the same way. I do that year game in my head all the time! Whenever some says...I was born on (example) 1957....in my head real quick I go...Sam Hanks! The Belond Spl! I hate it when someone was born between 1942-1945.....I always say darn no winners!!!! I also have a hard time remembering numbers, So usually have to put an imagine in my head with that particular number......Duane knows this and few weeks ago....he told me a number and it was 5000......he said just think Indianapolis Five thousand!

Calvin, yes I like to build cars that won on birth years of my family. I have the 29 winner for dad, the 81 winner for my daughter, and I've been after a 51 winner for years for my birth year. The search continues.

Do I ever plan out my builds? No! Just following my modeling natural instinct. I just do whatever feels good....besides, how I build this will probably be totally different than how Michael writes out the instructions! *shrug sholders*

I'm glad I'm building one right now during the mold and casting process as its helps in finding little problem areas that would most likely not be noticed if I wasn't doing my own WIP.

However, if you ask Craig or Calvin "what shade of gray?" The DEBATE will begin....dark/lightest gray or light/darkest grey?...also, because Craig and I grew up in the 50's, we didn't realize that "the Bardahl guy" was actually flesh colored until Calvin posted the video...so Caig and I were "deprived" during our chilhood with lack of color; but hey; we got to see and hear all the best bands in their prime...all the youngsters go nuts when I tell them about Led Zep @ The Summit Houston in 1973...3 hours of pure rock and roll... I'm a so-called "youngster" and I knew who won the 1973 Indy 500 before ever knowing who Led Zep was....(honest to goodness TRUTH) I don't know a thing about music. Also, rockstars scare the hell out of me - I believe it's bad for the brain....all those demons, drugs, sex, and twisted thinking! ...I'm way too conservative for that stuff!
