Superb, absolutely superb. I really like the frayed tire. I'm glad I let it go. This car deserved a Calvin build. I'm glad you did too! I just hope I built it almost as good as you would have!

Beautiful car. Well done! As I recall, tire dust in the intake {too close to the track surface} did the car in on race day, the same fate that Audi suffered at Sebring a few decades later. I think automotive historians should be a part of every race team's payroll.

I had a very nice talk with Freddie Agabashian about this car at Indy in his office at Champion's trackside room. He told me they knew the car wouldn't finish the race due to the turbocharger intake on the bottom of the car. He had told them to move the intake to a scoop on top of the car but Cummins didn't want any scoops to spoil the clean looks of the car. so this decision sealed the fate of the race car. If you look at photos from the month of May the Cummins crew always had matching hats pants and jackets, In 1952 most crews were lucky to have the same T shirts to wear. The Cummins crew was Frist Class all the way, so looks were very important to the Cummins people. Now all the crews have matching everything.

Very interesting story, Walt! Hard to believe they would pick form over function but it makes for interesting history.
Calvin the build is very nice and I like the shots of the two Cummins cars from 35 years apart. This one is so interesting unique and I know how much you like the qualifying run for this car so it is great to see you built it.

Sorry I'm late to this build of yours Calvin. I really glad you're having FUN building this car as that's the goal of building. I think we sometimes we get carried away with accuracy and details therefore loosing some of our enjoyment. Stay focused on the fun my friend and it will be one of your favorite builds. Thanks.....I usually skip around when I build kits, but not on this one I stuck with it from start to finish.
I'm also glad to have my first Freddie Agabashian car! Seems like a lot of people liked him.

Lovely work. I agree that builders keep their classic kits "as is." That's how we made them then and to update them seems like losing pieces of history. Thanx for this little known model of a lesser known real race car!
