Calvin, I just have to ask. Who are trying to please? Yourself or the Gods of race cars past? John The Model Weenie Gods!

Here is the story on the decals. The artwork was done by Michael Quarterman of "Motor Racing Replica News" fame, a great magazine he put out in the 90's. This was a sheet that had 3 projects on it, the 87 Foyt sheet, 71 Mallard and the Cummins sheet. Microscale did the printing and on the first run the yellow was way to light. I then went to the speedway and used pantone samples to match the color of the yellow on the car and had another run of decals printed. When the kit was shipped, it was shipped with the darker yellow sheet, how you got the lighter ones as well I do not know, I toss those in the trash as they are cut from the Foyt and Mallard sheets. If you have a good match to the darker decals you have nothing to worry about. Colors often look differrent when photographed or posted online.

At this point I think I'm going to just finish up the model and post pics and let everyone guess what I did with the color. With the suggestions I've received on and off the forum I basically will take all of them and make an average out of it. LOL It would make better political sense to do so! This is funny!

Nothing like a good color debate. The forum has been a bit slow lately, so I really enjoyed this. How is the tire looking?

Why not just post photos of the finished car with a note at the end "hope the color show right with my new camera" and let the viewer use their imagination?

It would make better political sense to do so! I'm just going to place this right here and say nothing more.......well unless someone pay$ me I will say what colors and name of paint I wound up using....since I made this political deal.

Looks good to me, and like I've said before, if you're happy that's all that matters.

Seeing this WIP and the photo of Big Al and Freddie really makes me hope that this kit gets re-issued some day.

I always enjoy listening to Freddie on the early 60's radio broadcast.....some of the things he said just cracks me up. Well I kinda brought those up in my first post of rules in this thread.

Thank you! I plan on clear coating over the tape line to get rid of the famous masking abrupt edge. Then I will add the Indycals panel lines.

I have those panel lines decals but haven't used them yet. I will be interested to see what they look like. kip

Its an honor to build this car! I bare metal foiled the grill. I used Indycals Panel lines which really brings out the depth which models always need help with the depth. I used Indycals dzus fasteners which are to scale and look real.....I made sure to locate every dzus on this car that I could find....which is A LOT! And YES I know they didn't have dzus fasteners holding the grill on....I'm going to paint chrome over the slot and make it solid.

WOW. Really looking good. I always liked using Indycals DZUS fasteners, and I really like the look of the panel lines. Think I'll try them on my next build. This build is just beautiful. You are making me sorry I ever let it go. By the way, do you ever sleep?

Superb, absolutely superb. I really like the frayed tire. I'm glad I let it go. This car deserved a Calvin build.

Good job. You are a machine with your level of productivity. I always enjoy seeing how you do things and how you make each model your own. I hate to tell all of you this but I was present to watch this qualifying run. It was spellbinding!! Too it did not fare better in the race but that is another story for another day. Jim
