Needs some more definition IMO. Did I send you the pics where Clark has his right elbow up and he appears to be shielding his eyes from the sun? Or the one where three's three mechanics on the ground working on the back of the car? (I deleted the ones I sent you so I don't recall what they were). Yeah you did.... I sent you an email...

Dan used several windscreens during the month, Calvin. Hard to believe Gurney would change anything on the car, I know.I think they all had the secondary inner part, and the open lower front. I don't think the one in your photo was the race verson, but, as always, I could be wrong. I got several photos from the IMS photo shop when I built my Yamaha Spl. I just made the one that looked the least complicated, and matched the best photo.

I think the tank look good Calvin, especially for the florescent red tank.
If you watch the YouTube video of the 1967 500, the one that was from the ABC Wide World of Sports, at about the 20 minute mark Graham Hill's Lotus gives out and Jimmy Clark's blows up a minute or so later and there are some decent still shots of the 31 car in the pit lane and without the driver. To my eye the tank looks about the same but for some reason is painted white. Maybe a replacement for the whitewall tires from the year before.

I've already modified the tank once again, it should be correct now....Michael P. helped me out on it like usual, he never gets enough credit for how much he helps out on my scratch builds....he's like the crew chief and I'm the driver...I get all the fame, but he's really the one that tells me how to shape these things! I'll have to take a look at the ABC WWoS Broadcast...Thanks!

I find it hard to believe there was a difference in the tanks between qualifying and race day. I'd bet the only difference was white paint.

Interesting car. Tony Rudd was no doubt still running the H16 on the test bed. What a fiasco. Checks cleared however....

Now all we need to complete the Lotus 38 decals is Mario's 1966 car that he practiced in but did not race. It is known as the "light alloy" car and is currently at Walter Goodwin's awaiting restoration. Carrried #1 Dean van Lines Spl. Also had the side tank.

Just saw that on Facebook! I have a race day version in the works WITH the white stripe that had the black outline. This should help me finish it up. This is the version I'm going to build when I get my 38 from Lance. Also, this car is going to be restored by Classic Team Lotus in race day trim - I've already sent some of the artwork to Clive.

Note that there is no stripe on the tail or engine cover behind the roll bar. Lotus was supposed to use the BRM H16 motor in 67, when that failed to materialize, they were forced to go with the Ford customer engines rather than the Factory engines they were used to, they struggled all month.

Does anyone know what that little black box is on the left side of the car just below the roll bar? I see the ignition module on the right side, so the little black box on the left is a head scratcher!

The Ignition box was eventually moved from the right side. The photo farther up of the right side of the car on the track shows it was removed.

That Black Box appears to be a ignition coil,very much like a Mallory Coil.. they would mount it there for cooling , when paired with the transistorized ignition it would run hot..
