I've not seen many photos of Clark's car from this year. At the risk of sparking another big debate, is the 67 Lotus 38 much changed from the 66 car? Thanks

The big tank on the side of the car. Qualified with exposed intake trumpets in 1967, too. Small differences in rear view mirror and support for exhaust pipes. 1966 1967 Jordan

Slight difference in the windshields. Plus, there is that helmet surround in 1967. You can see a brake line on the 1966 car that I can't see on the 1967 (rerouted?). Bodywork around the upper suspension piece is a bit different, too.

So who's going to cast the side tank so we can build this car when Lance does the re-issue? John

So who's going to cast the side tank so we can build this car when Lance does the re-issue? John The 1/16 Bandai 1966 Lotus has TWO side tanks (which weren't used at Indy and I believe are optional in this kit as I've seen it built without them). The tanks were used at the 1966 race at Fuji Speedway in Japan, but the car DNQ'd. The Joe Honda Lotus 49 1967 book has an excellent 10 page photo spread from this race (focusing on Clark).

It now seems that building every car Clark drove at Indy is within reality if I can figure out his 64 car. Really cool. If I live long enough,LOL!

Maybe a DNS but not a DNQ? I wonder if the Joe Honda book meant to say DNS? I dont understand there is so many big names DNS on those results! Why in the heck would they not let them start in a race half way around the world....its a big track.....WHY? If they make it on the race results it usually means the qualified.....maybe it was a shortage of spare parts is the reason why so many didn't start?

The Joe Honda book says he failed to qualify due to a broken motor.

Michael, the decals look awesome! I hope we get more Lotus 38's to apply them to I'm still drooling for a Bobby Marshman 29, a Clark 34 and that very weird Mickey Thompson fenderskate car. Plus a Lola Graham Hill 1966* car and my life will be nearly complete!!

The reason for all the DNS was it was 1966 the teams didn't have 18 wheel haulers to haul every thing in the shop like today so the lack of spare parts was the reason a lot of car were listed as DNS. In 1966 the cars were tow on Open trailers behind a Station Wagon or Pick Up Truck, The only race the teams had spare parts was the 500. Remember when Foyt's Lotus was unable to run at Milwaukee, and he drove his Dirt Car and almost won the race against all the rear engine cars. The only reason he had his dirt car was they race the day before at the Springfield 100, drove overnight to Milwaukee with the dirt car in tow, to meet up with the rest of the team.

That makes more sense. Thanks Walt for the info. In other news! There is a tank growing on the side of my 38! After it dries I will sand the rest into shape...

Since we're all in this wonderful Lotus 38 mood ( I hope Lance is too!) ", Michael I have a request. Would you be interested in upgrading your 1966 sheet to include the Lotus World Championship decal that is on both sides of the windscreens for both Clark's and Unser's car? Paul Erlendson

Sometimes I wonder if Lotus is the most popular car that raced at Indy?
