Craig: Beautiful! I was sharing with Gary at GWS Decals that this is truly a Golden Age in that a car modeler can now do so many "Holy Grail" models because of the wide variety of decal makers and resin casters...I grew up just wishing I could do 1 or 2 of my favorites...thanks to Gary S.,Michael, Calvin, Gary D., Kevin, Lance, Bill, Chris (thru Art and Ed) and others a whole new world has opened up...so on to more WIP's of Your Holy Grails! The only thing holding you back is you... Make it a great day! Tim

Craig, great job. It gives me hope that I can break my building doldrums. And, yes, Bryan was a very special guy. Sat next to an old guy (my age) at Pocono on Sunday. He was from Phoenix and lived near Bryan as a kid. Said Bryan always had time to chat with the him and the other kids in the area. He was present when Bryan tore up the board wall at the Phoenix Fairgrounds (1957 ?)and came back to win. We talked about Bobby Ball, Ronnie Shuman and the Yeleys. And then we had to be present at the loss of another Champ Car driver, Justin Wilson. But to hang with another acolyte for several hours was memorable. Model on, dude. Ed

I understand just what you mean, Ed. Sometimes you just have to walk away for a while. Libby, and I were finishing dinner one evening, and she said "it's a great evening for a convertible, why don't we go someplace in the Mustang?" I said "well I really need to go down to the workbench and work on my model". She said "why?". I thought about that for a few seconds and said "where do you want to go?" You don't stay married for almost 50 years by being completely stupid. This is all about having fun. When it's not, just walk away, those kits are not going to spoil, or go out of date. Trust me, the enthusiasm will come back.

Then get lonely, buy a goldfish, then start talking to the fish, and then to proceed to get weird. and live miserably ever after!

I don't think you need to worry about getting weird as you get older, Calvin. For me, when a hobby becomes a job, it's time to walk away. After my break, I'm looking forward to building again.

hmmm. maybe that's what I have been doing for so long, taking a break. I always start projects and stop at some point then start another. My intentions are good Promise!

Some guys can work on more than one project at a time, Bill. For me, it just won't work. I was working on a Gurney Lotus 29 when Calvin sent me the first Metal Cal. I was so fired up that I started it right away, working on the Lotus at the same time. That did not work out very well. I'm not a real organized person, my desk, and workbench always look like a plane crash site. I try to do better, but I'm not very good at it. Things were moving along slowly, then the second paint job on the Metal Cal blew up. That's when my wife asked me why I was doing that to myself. I just needed to walk away for a while. Now I'm back on the Lotus, and feel better about the whole thing. I guess my point is, for some of us, if you stop working on one thing, and start on another, you are headed for "burn out", don't go there. Pick one project and stick with it. Remember, my advice is worth exactly what you paid for it. Take Care Craig

You know what's funny? I'm the same as Craig. I can't do more than one build at a time. If I do, I wind up losing focus on both projects. Also, no matter how much I try to keep it neat, my workbench is always cluttered. I guess we're just a couple of lovable slobs. But he probably has more hair than I do. :-)

Trust me, the enthusiasm will come back. Wait, you have a wife who WANTS to go for a ride in the Mustang? Mine doesn't want much of anything to with mine! Believe it or not, I am FINALLY making progress on mine, now that the kids don't need constant attention, the kitchen project is done, etc. Got the engine rebuild done and reinstalled a couple weeks ago. Still need to get the driveshaft in and a few other things, but I've started on the interior. Body is "mostly" done, what's left will have to be mostly post-paint.

I am like Craig too, except I don't start a second project, I start 20 or 30 of them and consequently I never get beyond a certain point. I like body work, I can occasionally get some painting done but assembly is elusive. If I am working on a street car I stop at the bare metal foil part. I can even get all the chassis and interior done, together and the body painted. I just can't get that BMF on them. I also have a Gurney Lotus 29 that I restored from a glue bomb, the only thing I need to do is paint the stripes blue and assemble/decal. It's been sitting awhile. No good excuse

I think you got the best deal, by far. Thanks for all the kind words, guys. Take Care Craig
