Jimmy Bryan is one of the all time great drivers, and a hero of mine when I was just a kid. The first time I saw the Speedway was in 1960 during practice. There was a very small, yellow car running, that I had never seen before. The driver was a good sized man, who filled the cockpit completely. I said to one of the yellow shirts, "that's a really neat, little car, who is the driver". He said "Jimmy Bryan". Since that day, that has been one of my favorite cars. It was one of the first cars I ever saw run, it was the last car "The Cowboy" ever drove at Indy, and it was probally the smallest roadster ever built. I had mentioned to Calvin that I would love to build that car someday. Yesterday in the mail, I got a box from Calvin, Guess what. The Lotus is going back into the box, I have to build this car. If you are a Jimmy Bryan fan, a roadster fan. or just a fan of different cars, this is a "must have". Mine is going into "the purple pond" right away. Take Care Craig

I always get the color right, Duane. Calvin sometimes has a problem . His instructions say to paint it Testors Daytona Yellow, and I'm so happy to get this car that, for once, I won't argue with him. I suspect this will be a temporary truce. Take Care Craig

I had forgotten about this car. Wasn't this is last Indy ride? Correct, Terry. Bryan was killed at Langhorne less that a month later. The car ran in '61 with Chuck Stevenson. and in '62 and '63 with Johnny Boyd. After 1963, George Salih realized that he, along with everyone else, had been putting the engine in the wrong end of the car. Craig

I'm like Craig. Jimmy Bryan was my first racing hero and when AJ replaced him in the Dean Van Lines car he became my hero after Bryan's death. Just a quick story when I was a kid, I asked Al Dean for his autograph which he gave me. But then he took my program and said let me get you a real authograph. It happened to be AJ's rookie year!

Wow, look what pops out from the secret Washington laboratory! Jordan This is the only secret I had going on....everything else is transparent. So no current secrets at this point. For the most part secrets don't work in the resin business I've found out because we resin builders have the tendency to start coincidentally start building kits at the same time and not know it....But with this metal cal kit I wasn't too worried since its such an obscure car....

Calvin, you earned your nickname with this one, Mr. Machine! What a nifty little car.
I confess, I have never even seen a pic of this car before. This one must have raised some eyebrows in Gasoline Alley when it showed up.
Very cool to surprise Craig that way. You are a class act Calvin.

i'd love to see the different versions of this car offered as well. duane Dittos on this. This car ran up through '64 so there's plenty of modeling material here (hint: d-e-c-a-l-s and w-i-d-e t-i-r-e-s). Sandy

It wasn't that good of a day for resin - my mold broke already Just 15 pulls is all it did! I guess my new resin likes to hang on! (and yes I use mold release) I was saying I will have more in a week...um, bump that up a few more days (like usual time never is on our side) With a new pressure tank and vacuuming my rubber the process of making product has been an improvement and is more efficient but for some reason my mold life is not holding up like is was with the old slush casting method - I'm going to be trying out some new rubber soon so that might hold the answer? I'm still learning.....

Bummer, that slow cure resin might react with the silicone. The new rubber, or a different release spray might be the answer. If you want to bounce some ideas off me, you know the number.

I'm just going to try the rubber that is made by the same company I get my resin from.....I'd like to get away from that darn 10:1 alumilite rubber - after they came out with the "new and Improved" #3 rubber I wasn't getting pulls like was before with slush casting.
The Wildcat, 83 and 84 Marches I got 60 pulls with the old type of Alumiltte rubber but after the their "new formula" - 35 at best.

Mine came today also. Way to go Calvin! You did a really nice job on this kit. It looks like it will be fun to build. So now, what's the chances of you following this up with the '64 Apache Airlines version with the low and wide '64 wheels and tires?

So now, what's the chances of you following this up with the '64 Apache Airlines version with the low and wide '64 wheels and tires? I'd have to be convinced that at least 10 people would want one..... It took about 6 combine hours to do the Metal cal sheet start to finish - which is little more basic compared to the 64 Apache scheme and the investment in doing 1964 Firstones which are Fujimi GT40 copies

does it come with the dent in the hood or is that up to us? :-) You have to do that yourself, but I'll include a 1/25 hammer in the kit. (for those that believe everything - NO I will not its just a joke)

In the first and last pic it looks like they tried a DW12 type bumper on the back! My favorite roadsters were from '64 on because they look old and new at the same time with the low, wide tires. I'd love to commit, but I'm so broke I can't pay attention. With Lance's M15 and Mallard ordered, I'm tapped right now. Plus, Ricky's Novi is coming. What a great time for Indycar modelers. However, if not enough folks sign up, I could start digging through the couch for change... MJ
