Good thing I have an extra kit... I ruined some of the parts with the dark green paint. Time to search for a new top color

The paint literally came out of the airbrush like silly-string. Look at this spider-webbing - this stuff would just materialize out of thin air! I've never seen anything like this.

For the record, the paint is pre-thinned. If I backed off on the air pressure it splattered real badly. When I got enough pressure to get a steady stream, I got this spider webbing. I tried very heavy coats in the hope it would settle nicely like Tamiya paint does, but no such luck. Now I have to use a whole nother kit just to get a few wing pieces and a new nose.

Oh yuck! I'm sorry to see this happen. It kinda reminds me of what happen when I used zero Paint on my 2006 Ferrari. (not the webbing but the wrinkling effect)

I'm going to try to save the ruined parts - fortunately I didn't try painting the tub or engine cover. I found Krylon Emerald green at Walmart and it is a very good match - perhaps not quite as nice as the 7-up green I was using but it's the closest you will find in a can. And it seems to take Testor's Model Master High Gloss Laquer.

I have never (knock on wood) had a problem with the Testors over Krylon

Here is the finished under tray and drive train. And here is the freshly krylon emerald green painted tub and engine cover. All the roughness where the colors meet will be covered by decals, so I'm not concerned about that.

The Krylon green looks like it laid down really well! Always a relief when the paint works as you hope, painting is still the big question mark for me! Looking forward to watching your progress with this car!

Hey! That looks nice. You are so good that any problems that pop up in your way you always knock them right back down with ease. I cant wait to see that Penske shock in there.....

The Krylon paint seems really nice. I've had success with it in the past. My 1955 winner was painted with Krylon - both the watermelon pink and the ivory.

Looking really good. I am glad I am not the only one that has paint problems.

Put the body with the silly string green in a tub of Super Clean, you can get a gallon @ Walmart for about $6. Let the thing soak for a day or so, scrub it once in awhile with an old toothbrush and after a day or two you'll be back to plain plastic.
Do wear some rubber gloves, the stuff eats skin. Not very bad fumes but it takes off a layer of skin if you leave it on your hands very long.
Your repaint job looks good!

Worst part is done. The rear wing. This may be the worst rear wing in Tamiya's lineup. 5 separate wing elements and two endplates.

Awesome!
Yeah that does look tough!
I'm glad to see you still plugging away on this one - I was beginning to think the paint problems got you down....

Very nice, how are you going to display this one? It seems you are doing a lot under the skin so I was wondering if this one would be shown panels off!?

This is ridiculous! This build is awesome. I love your painting of the drivetrains on all your builds but this one is tops IMO. Car turned out really really great.

Spectacular! The smooth gloss of the finish is really impressive. The shock scratch-building is well done and balances the car with the panels off. A beautiful 191, what a way to show off the kits you now sell. Fantastic photography, too, as usual.
