Yesterday I received my spray can of Coyote Orange. I got it from that Mustang place on the web. www.cal-mustang.com/EXTERIOR-LACQUER-TOUCH-UP-PAINT-1964-65-Poppy-red-Code-3-P15004C0.aspxHopefully this spray can works, like still has its propellant and sprays.... Supposedly its lacquer and the correct color.....before anyone says anything about dupi-color having a close Foyt color, I dont care I hate enamel! I'd rather spend 4 times more money on Lacqer than put up with enamel BS! So I'm going to paint up both of my Coyotes at the same time. This is such a beautiful car! I love the rear wing. Lance did a wonderful job on this! I'm glad I was able to get this last year.

Looks like an interesting Coyote with wing supports like the recently dominant Chaparral and all. Test fitting or gluing to paint it all at once?

Everything in the pic is all glued up, and after I fix up the endplates on the front wing I will clean it with a scuff pad/dish washing soap and then Prime it.

I always loved this car and Lance has produced a beautiful kit. I would have purchased one for my collection if anyone other that AJ had driven it! Paul Erlendson

This 1981 Coyote was the car that AJ had his bad crash with at Michigan and this video talks about his return after that crash.
It would of been a career ending crash for 98% of drivers but AJ wasn't in the 98%

Calvin , just one question. How many hours in a day on your planet? Gary Not enough! Actually I spent 1 hour applying the decals on this car, and that's the only model building I did all day. Believe it or not I really don't spend very much time on a giving day on model building. Prolly just 2 hrs a day. But that adds up in a weeks time.

(See 1967 Coyote as well) I had a problem with the future floor wax as it cracked on both of my coyote orange paint jobs the 1981 is way worse but the 67 isn't as bad.....I might have to redo the 1981

Future should remove with Windex/ammonia so hopefully you don't have to strip the paintjob and decals. Try it on this one first since it is the worst case.

i agree on the windex tip. it works really well. i'm guessing the cracks are from the paint not being cured enough so it's still gassing out. duane

If it is lacquer, you should be able to clear with the Testors wet look. After the decals dried, you did wash the model to get rid of the Solvaset I assume.

Even though it was advertised as lacquer (On the website) It didn't say lacquer anywhere on the can....and after it didn't dry for many days I figured there's NO way this is lacquer so a week later after I felt it was dry I used the safe alternative for clear, Future, and found out that future isn't that 100% safe alternative after all. And BTW I also used future on other cars with Tamiya lacquer paint jobs the same time I was waxing the two Coyotes and they didn't crack.
And yes I always make sure I clean my body work before any paint job.

Such a cool car, once again the folks on this website reveal a car that I never saw before and this one is a real surprise, though in 1991 I was 21, just coming of age to drink legally so that may explain it. The recent posts go into clear-coating, something after all the years of building models is so unpredictable for me. I am mostly not doing clear coating, it is such a let-down to prep, paint and decal a model only to have a bad outcome when applying the clear coat like the decals wrinkling or in your case, the Future wax cracking--what a drag that must have been! Haven't seen many "how-to's" on this website, but with the wealth of expertise and high-skill level building by many members, it would be interesting to build a few posts on techniques, tricks and tips. Maybe they exist and I didn't dig deep enough, my apologies if that is the case.

It may have been an old can, whatever. When you are forced to use enamel paint, a food dehydrater is almost a must IMO. You can usually buy them cheap at a dollar store, and they do the job. I have never had a problem with Future (something else to look forward to, I suppose). Seems like sooner or later, something will always bite you in the butt.

Its beyond me how this really happen with the future and this silly mustang paint? Its the first time I've had to strip a paint job in like a hundred years!

NOOOOOOOOoooooooooo! Please NO!....NO! Sorry about the paint, Calvin. I had forgotten about this Coyote, I thought this was a Chaparral at first.... Jordan No worries, last night I met with the fine folks at the MP2 colour research centré and they set me straight on some things.....I'm not going to announce what color or paint I'm going to use as It will most likely create a huge uproar and really make some people really upset!

Calvin, the next time you have the model and your camera out, could you take a photo of the underside? I'm wanting to get a better understanding of the way the cockpit is constructed.
