The color of this car is Coyote Red also known as 1965 Mustang Poppy Red, this info come the gentleman who restore the car back to the 1981 Foyt version. He contacted A.J. Foyt racing while doing the restoration and they gave him all the info for the paint and any parts he needed to make, as this car was in 2 major crashes 1 at MIS with Foyt and 1 at Indy with Bob Harkey.

Calvin, if you have an airbrush I recommend trying Scalefinishes paints. He has a Ford Poppy Red that is an acrylic enamel (automotive paint). It comes pre-mixed, ready to spray. I just used some to paint a Donnie Allison Talladega and it looks great. It is already gloss paint, no clear required and I always spray my Scalefinishes paints over Tamiya primer, usually white.
After a day or so of drying, I polish with the Novus #2 and #3 polishes and get a great gloss. All of the OEM paint colors are mixed according to manufacturers color codes by a computer controlled mixer. I highly recommend it.

I just bought that exact paint for 1964 1/2 Mustang replica I'm building this month as a gift. I was planning to save the extra, should there be any, for the Jorgenson 77 Coyote I picked up a few months ago.

This has been bothering me ever since I had the paint issue and had to strip it....so I made up my mind to use the same paint if possible and paint it when we got a nice hot day to really get the propellant up to pressure and make that paint go the best way possible....so that is exactly what we did....we had a 78 degree day, while Craig was getting snowed on in the mid-west..... I used that can of mustang poppy red/orange and repainted this ground effect puppy....BTW don't tell Michael P. I used the same color, as he thinks this 81 Coyote was more reddish .....I gave up on trying to figure that out so I went this. So now I'm going to let this sit and dry for the next 100 days and see if its dry by then.....

Uncle Bob visited Foyt's shop back in the day and there were barrels full of that paint sitting on palates. Apparently Foyt got all Ford had left when they discontinued the color.

I don't know why, but I got a little bit of orange peel with the Testors clear coat. My guess it was the atmospheric conditions, it seems to happen when the Barometer is 29.62 inHg and the Humidity of 18%, Visibility: 10.00mi. and a Dew Point: 31°F.......I mean it's not rocket science? I'm going to color sand it, and I'll add a fresh coat latter....

Glad the Mustang color is working out this time. It is a sharp looking car with that color on it.

I laughed a total of 1 min 32 sec at this response, Craig. My laugh was also at 70 decibels (dB) You really need to help find me a girlfriend, Craig......or I'm just going to get weirder.

We keep trying, Calvin, but you don't follow directions very well. Once more, Talk to girls, after you practice that for a while, we will move on to step 2. It's really not that difficult.

Don't you guys realize if you got me a girlfriend that I will become distracted and probably not get anything built or be able to come on the forum and mark my territory? You might get lonely yourselves if that happen?

Well, splitting time 50/50 between girls and modeling, would leave the results of one area in a still high point and would undeniably boost the other one...

Calvin, I I'm sure you already know, I am just reminding you; scale models are much cheaper and you can enjoy them on your schedule versus the real two legged models.
