Wow! It is interesting how much we remember from out youth. I was 14 when that photo was taken an I can remember a lot of the first names of these drivers. I can't remember breakfast but I remember these: Jimmy Clark, Parnelli Jones, AJ Foyt, Loyd(may be Lloyd) Ruby, Roger Ward, Jim Hurtabise, Johny Rutherford, Don Cheesbourg, Jim Hall, Jack Brabham, and probably Al Unser. I think this was a little before Bobby Unser. I remember sitting in the back yard of my uncles house in Nebraska listening to these races on the radio.

Do you guys mind if the belly pan doesn't have the opening underneath were the engine is exposed? For myself the designer and manufacture it would be way easier to design this trans kit just for the 4 cam V-8 to just simply sit on top of the AMT Lotus 29 belly pan. Between designing the engine cover and how the 4 cam will mount up is quite the challenge. If this was a one off scratch build it wouldn't necessary be that hard to do but designing this as a resin trans kit is whole different story.

I'm fine with whatever you come up with, as long as the look is right.

PURE FIREBIRD SPECIAL 'reworked' Lotus 29 UpdateFYI I'm working on the Bobby Marshman car first as it needs the least amount of changes then I'll take my resin masters from the Marshman car and modify those into Lotus 34 parts and then on and then on.... I pretty sure I have the engine cover figured out I still need to work some more problems out of it and clean it up and I will show you guys. As far as I can see on the Marshman car there will be a resin nose, cowling, engine cover, 4 cam Ford engine, tires, wheels, and side tank.....

This being a transkit as with the Lotus 29, I plan on opening up the area under the engine myself and creating motor mounts, but that's something most any of us can easily do if we so choose. I confess that everytime I think about that though, I consider the valleys for the radiator and oil plumbing as done in the Tamiya Lotus 25 kit. I don't think that it's quite prototypical of the Lotus 29-34 series though. Paul Erlendson

I'm looking for more:) We need to talk Round2 into reissuing the HoF kit or the Lotus and Watson kits. That would be nice. Maybe Michael can sell his master tires to them for a huge amount - then Michael can retire. Then we wouldn't have a decal maker but we would have nice tires in those kits.

I did see Michael was working on the Dunlap tires for the factory Lotus team, how about the standard Firetones of 64?

I wished I knew what I was doing with the engine cover! This is the third try at making a detachable one! This time I'm trying cover the engine and surrounding areas in putty, then hopefully I can sculpt out the rest, then cut out were the intakes and exhaust areas. The saran wrap in a barricade so the putty doesn't stick to anything I'm forming it around.
BTW once I figure out this engine cover the development of these kits will be a "cake walk" the rest of the way!
and just a reminder the Goal.....and I say the GOAL! is to make conversion kits for the following using this AMT Lotus 29.
1964 Bobby Marshman "reworked 29" (As seen so far on this thread) 1964 Clark 34 1964 Gurney 34 1965 Parnelli Jones Hurst Shifter 34 1965 Foyt 34 (This one might be up iffy as it needs a huge amount of mods - I don't want to guarantee this one at all!)

Would it be OK if I make the bottom part of the engine cover NON removable and just make it a glued on part....it would make a world of difference if I can just design it that way!

Not to be a heretic or anything (been accused of that before) but how about a curb-side? Wouldn't that solve the problem?

I'd be more than content with that. The actual car had the 2 lower pieces, below the injectors and the top piece that went around the exhaust, there was an additional part just behind the cockpit that bulged it out to cover the front tips of the cam covers. It looked quite nice but was actually pretty cobbled together on the real modded 29 and somewhat like it on the 34 as well.

Just reviewing some previous posts on Bobby Marshman's Lotus 29/34 with the DOHC "Mule" testing, WOW! I thought I knew about this car but the "Straight back" non-Bundle of Snakes is too cool, I've got to do that version too! A big help to me are auto racing magazines of the time namely: Modern Rod Aug 1965 excellent color cover of Clark's #82 and Parnelli's gold #98, Sports Car Graphic Aug 1964 excellent Marshman Lotus 34 color cover, Hot Rod March 1964 beautiful 1st version DOHC bronze color with "Birdshooter" exhausts and perhaps my favorite CARS April 1964 with Marshman's test 29/34 with the bronze color engine on the cover with "Birdshooters" (looks like the AMT alternate exhausts will work, these also look good on early Shelby King Cobras). BUT, now that I've seen the straight-back DOHC 8 into 2 exhausts (only photo I have shows a Ford photo of 4 different DOHC exhausts tried, I only thought were dyno versions not actually track tested) I guess I'll have to make both. At least I've got lots of IMC and AMT 29's to use! Anyone have a set of 1/24 Marshman decals they want to sell? Thanx, John

Nope. Not yet. Sometimes projects get started with the best intentions but reality sets in that the timing just isn't right at the moment. But when that time is right, the wait is usually worth it. It usually boils down to, you can have it done fast, or you can have it done right. When it's done, it will be done right.
