Oh my, yet another scratch build WIP! My scratch builds are kinda like Chia Pets, they dont look like much at the start but just give it some time and it eventually grows! (What a strange analogy)This is going to be a curbside resin body and 75% of an AMT PC-17 kit will be needed as a donor.

I'm I just seeing things or does the body work step out more vertically around the rear tire flipper? (kinda hard to explain)

What I'm trying to say is the side of the bodywork above the kick up is a concave(?) radius (goes in)....but below the kick up it looks to be a convex(?) radius (comes out)

Ok, here's another shot. For the side face of the sidepod, I'm seeing two angles, one above and one below the kick-up, each without any curvature. Vertical below, slanted inward at the top above the kick-up.

I think we are on the same page? LOL I'm not worried about the kick up at all, its the radius' the side of the bodywork I'm asking about. Basically without the kick up there it would be a step between the top and bottom.

Lol ok yes, I think we are on the same page. Looking at some 1989 pictures on the HD, I'm seeing lots of aero bits forward of the radiators on lots of different cars..

Yeah what was throwing me is I was looking at a drawing of the PC-18 and it doesn't show the convex and concave sides correctly....plus its hard to tell on some pics..... If a person looks at the PC-17 AMT kit its basically the same but on the PC-18 its more of an extreme bend in.

Looks like they're there at Detroit: but not on the car raceday morning: in the race: or the next day:

It looks to me that the Penske cars have different radiator inlets compared to the Patrick radiator inlets.
In the 89 Yearbook see pg.4 of the Patrick car and compare it to the Penske cars on pg. 32
Plus the Penske cars have that aero fin on the front and the Patrick car does not.

or the next day: Interesting. Almost all the day after shots I've seen show Emmo with a PC17, and this is clearly the PC18 - and it appears to have recently rained. (yearbook page 78 for the PC17, but page 107 shows a winners shot with the PC18). And yes, the radiator inlet does look different. We do know that Patrick modified the PC18 - that's why they finished the race and the Penske entered ones didn't - Patrick found some sort of flaw in the car.

Calvin, have you thought about asking Tony Matthews for reference shots? He's posted a series of photos on other forums for a few cars which he drew from the photos. I have a Pennzoil one of this in poster form, too. Jordan

I asked Tony for some shots of the PC-17 and he obliged me as best he could. The only problem was that he couldn't find the bulk of his pictures, or it would have been a great score.

PC-18 Update Update Update Update It looks pretty funky right now but I'm very happy with how the shape is coming along. Also how the PC-17 donor progress as well.... I'll have complete instuctuon with this kit on how to convert the AMT PC-17 to fit with the new PC-18 resin body. (its very simple) It will just be a few cuts and thats it! The good think about using the AMT kit as a donor is most of it will get used so it will not feel like a waste.

Coming along nicely Calvin. Did you extend the windscreen? Always seemed like the '89 had a windscreen with leading edge of it very far up on the nose.

The best way to see the difference is look at these shots Even the tip of the nose is more of V shape on the PC18 Before I started on this I didn't realize how many little differences there are between the 17 and the 18
