Decaled and clear coated: Engine and headers painted. All the pictures I've seen show the headers as more of an off-white, so I used Tamiya Racing white for the headers, as it is very off-white:

Well I guess I'll just have to put my Big Boy pants on and figure it out on my own. The pressure is on because this is such a great kit.

Michael, are you planning to do any wiring or fuel line detail on your build? I'd like to do both on mine as well as brake lines. Although I really don't know where to route the rear brake lines

Michael,
Do the brake lines, too. They're too easy to do. How about a mask for the yellow stripe? Maybe?

I'm thinking about toning down some of the chrome with a satin finish of some kind. Mainly the suspension bits. Does this seem like a good idea? I don't know how much actual chrome was on this car, I've heard that Chapman was rather frugal, to put it nicely. Any thoughts?

I was watching a friends DVD 2 nights ago with in car highlights from way back when. They had several shots of the 49, front and back and I was surprised how bright the metal work was. Awfully close to chrome to my eyes. MJ

Yep... even the gearbox was pretty shiny - not chrome by any stretch, but lots of bright metal on the 49s.

Okay then, I'll leave it as is. It's not like anyone I know will question my decision when they see it. Thanks guys.
John
PS I've looked at some shots of DFVs and I'm surprised how monochromatic they are.

Looking very nice Michael. I was looking over my “Team Lotus” book today concerning the early part of 1968. Jim Clark played Team Manager besides driver for the Tasman series that winter and had a lot of difficulty with the organizers over the Gold Leaf sponsorship on the car. Guess he must have done a good job as the cars ran with the sponsorship displayed. Paul Erlendson

Got a bit sidetracked from this, but finally finished it up. and here is the first finished livery - Jim Clark's last win, 1968 Australian Grand Prix (Tasman series), Lotus 49T
