I started work on a diorama I have always wanted to do. I'm calling it "Lap 198". I am using 2 Tameo 1/43 kits of the 89 Lola and Penske. However, I have a problem. The Lola is missing the tires and the windshield. I knew the tires were missing and the seller gave me a partial refund and I was going to cast them off the Penske tires. I've had these for a few years and when I revisited the idea of doing this, found the windshield was missing too. Sooooo, anybody out there have a windshield or tires they are willing to sell me? (crickets chirping) Thanks, Mike

LOL This will be a fun one!
I dont know about the tires but if you make windscreen bucks out of Milliput putty and sent them to me I can vac-Forum some for you......

I love the diorama idea. Adding drivers or not?
I know this will (not) shock everyone here but a quick check of my Tameo kits revealed all my IndyCars from them are only Penske chassis. Hopefully you can work something out to complete this Lola kit.

Thanks for your offer Calvin and I may take you up on it. I am going to see what I can come with first but will definitely keep you in mind. I am using driver figures from a couple of 1/43 Menard diecast cars I got when I used to work for them. They are almost a perfect fit. Thanks again, Mike

Mike,
I can send you a set of Ampersand tires if you want. I just checked, they fit on the Tameo rims, too. PM your mailing adress if you are interested.

Clear coat done. Except Tameo screwed up on this one. The USAC inspections stickers are from 1990 and not '89. You can actually read the 1990 on them so now I am going to have to make. Awesome!

It looks great. Just a thought, IndyCals offers this sheet minus M******* logos and Michael's pretty great about getting the stickers right.

Al Jr.'s car has been cleared. I got a hold of a windshield and tires so this will be done soon. Then I can start working on the track display for it. Thanks, Mike

Also, I had to convert it from a road course car (rear wheel ramps and front wings) to a speedway car.

Great job Mike! I like your work and great idea on the lap 198. What did you use for the Valvoline blue?

Great job Mike! I like your work and great idea on the lap 198. What did you use for the Valvoline blue? Mark Thanks everyone. The color is Rustoleum Navy blue in the 2x coverage can from Home Depot. Everything I paint with is Rustoleum (except for detail painting). However on Emmo's car I had to use Tamiya Flo Red. I learned that there is a difference between just Flo Red and Flo Orange/Red with M'boro cars. This car is Rustoleum gray primer, then flat white, Navy blue. Then clear lacquer, decals, and clear again. I clear before the decals that way I know the paint job is good. I had a model I painted once ('89 Amway car) that I did all the masking, painting, then decalling, only to clear it and watch the paint and decals lift and gel up into a blob. Doing this way now, I don't waste the decals if I have problems with paint. Thanks Mike

Nice work and love it! I was there that day but was sitting in the pits with no radio. I remember asking everyone around me. Where's Little Al? What happened? LOL Watching the replay when we got home was amazing. As Sam Posey would say "Very dangerous business". Hard to believe that Emmo didn't crash as well.

You did a great job and I love the side by side. Really shows how Tameo did it right with each car having distinctive shapes, suspensions, wings, etc.

these cars look fantastic together, Emmo & Little Al were in a class of their own that day, if memory serves, Raul Boesel finished 3rd in the Domino's Pizza special, and he was six laps down on Emmo at the end. I will always have a soft spot for the '89 "500", it was the race that the Papyrus Indy 500 computer game was based on, and thats what got me into Indy, nice memories !
