The Batmobile is HERE! ;D What an Awesome kit! Thank you Lance! Thank you! Nice Work! to get the batmobile you better hurry www.lsresincars.com/page1.htmlSo the WIP adventure begins once more...... But first a little history behind the car. Feel free to tell what you know because I dont know much actually about this team or car. On pg. 21 of the Indianapolis 500 yearbook there is a picture of the 81 Interscope and it says ".....We hope Danny Ongais' full bodywork is a wave of the future. Nice.' ex. the new 2012 car So.....basically you can say that this 81 Interscope was 30 years ahead of design? This car was originally designed for a Porsche engine. But Phil Casey and crew revamped the car to accept the Cosworth power plant. This car was one of the fastest of the month but on lap 64 a broken suspension part sent him into the wall and the rest is history. The photos are from www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/indy500/galleries/show/5684-1981-indianapolis-500/I will give updates almost everyday on this wip.

RR wheel bearing seized. They had that issue during practice also. That is straight from a crew member. The later Reynards had that issue at super speedways, which was fixed by remachining them to accept a larger, heavier duty bearing with special grease.

How many drivers would be willing to climb into a car of the same design after going through an accident such as Danny's 1981 disaster? There's a man some big attachments.

Danny was a racer for sure. Drove everything and drove them all well. Big attachments indeed!

I saw that clip and was puzzled to not see the impact. Check around the 2:30 mark on this clip:

I got the cockpit glue on and the rear skirts on, which are pretty cool. Its amazing how long the car looks just because of the extended rear body work.

Black is hard to take pics of. My camera has a hard time with black, it gets a bunch of red and blue in it so I have to fix it afterwards with the photobucket tools.

What's your ETA for this one Calvin? Two, three days? Just kidding. I just want to see you do up the 1989 Newman-Haas car, now that Michael has the new decals for them.

For a car that never won the 500, it is a pretty looking machine. Although the thing that made this and some of the other cars from 1981 look so weird were those tiny rear wings over the boat tail. Were they able to get that to work because the back end of the car provided a bit of downforce itself?

Based on the 1981 "Black Art" ground effects, my guess on the actually downforce provided by the body alone at probably around 2,000 lbs.. Back then it was truely a "Black Art" technology that had been sucessfully used by Jim Hall and Colin Chapman but literally scared the crap out of most builders. For a lot of them the result was well .... refer to the crash pics. Suspension failure, poss. caused by extreme downforces (G) and total loss of Adhesion.. End Result.. Ongasis was a truely blessed person this day. Chris

Beautiful work. Really nice finish with the black paint. Did you buff out the finish or is it SOC - straight out of the can?
