Gee! How's a guy suposed to get one? Dont know? ;D I cant build them fast enough. Dont worry, like I've said before as long as people buy them, I'll keep making them. The only problem right now is I cant keep up with the demand.

I thought this thread needed some new pics The wing supports were a real aggravation. It took several tries experimenting with styrene and sheet brass. Eventually what I did was I took some styrene, cut out four identical rectangles slightly larger than the wing supports. I then glued the four pieces together, applying glue only in areas where the support would not be - ie the four corners of the plastic sheets. I then took the template - available on my Wildcat decal page - and glued the template to the top sheet of styrene - again applying glue in the areas that would not be the finished support - including the holes that would be drilled out. I then started drilling the holes, starting with my one of my smallest drill bits, and gradually increasing the size of the holes until I reached the finished size. Once the holes were drilled I took an exacto with a brand new blade (that is VERY important) and started trimming the supports through four sheets of plastic. The farther down I went the less accurate the cuts became, so pay close attention. As you keep making more cuts the sheets start to come apart, so make the most difficult cuts first, save the easy ones for last. Once I had my four supports I sanded them down and painted them with Testors Metalizer Brass. The radiator vents were wing pieces from a 1/20 Tamiya F189 - some of the finer wing elements worked fine for the smaller vent pieces. The center piece is a larger piece (see my detailed pic earlier in this thread) - for that I used a larger piece of wing (but still small by wing standards). I painted those with Testors Metalizer Burnt Metal. The dayglo on the Andretti car is decal, the dayglo on the Johncock car is Tamiya TS 36. The Andretti car was painted with Tamiya TS51 and it is a PERFECT match for the actual car. The Johncock car was painte TS23 which is maybe a hair dark, but not to any detriment. The rear wingplates are sheet aluminum, painted on the outside only (the inside was bare aluminum, as was the underside of the wing).

Something that comes to my mind right now was back around 2004 I watched the ESPN Classic 1982 Indy 500 for the first time but afterwards I actually got on ebay (before I knew anything about indy history or indycar models) and looked for a Wildcat Model (believe it or not) and found nothing! I couldn't believe that nothing was out there....just a few monogram indy kits and a few pace cars. So I never would of thought that I would of been the one to get that problem solved.

We're all grateful that you were the one, Calvin!
I've waited so long to build these cars that even as I look at them sitting 18" from me as I type this, I still can't believe it.

Lance, thanks for the beautiful photos and advice. I've been pondering the wing supports so this really helps with that. Also thanks for the paint colors, again very helpful. Did you prime first? Since the resin is so white (Thanks Calvin) I was wondering if this is necessary.

And always prime under Tamiya colors unless you like transparency on the corners.

Holy crap, I think you're going to have to teach me how to build my own kit! LOL
Wow, I mean Wow!
It looks like Tamiya build up.
But seriously you did an excellent clean up job on all the small parts.
The cockpit looks outstanding!
actually everything looks outstanding.
