I expect this thread to go no further than a few posts. Why? Because I am keeping my next completed build a secret even to myself until it's time to lay the decals on. It all depends on how the paint looks.
I will give a hint: It's a Lola T-8800. And, in getting away from my recent Monogram builds, its an AMT.
The rest is pure speculation...For all of us.

Last guess....Tune up masters Lola? Nope. I'm eventually going to do that car but it will be a Monogram so I'll have a matching set with the Guerrero car I just finished and the Sneva car that I'll be doing very shortly. I do have to admit that the big reason I don't like to do a car that's already been done is that my builds look inferior to the ones done by Greg, Scott, Russ and you among others. Mine are getting much better and I'm having a ball doing them. I think that's the most important thing: I'm having a lot of fun doing them. Before, I'd get frustrated with the finished product and hate myself for the time I put into a build. Now, because of the great tips I've gotten here and the encouragement we all give each other, I've just enjoyed everything about model building. Kind of like when I first put a kit together at the age of 5. Wow, I've just bared my soul to the forum. So it goes. I'm sure everyone has a story to tell. As an FYI, I'm still not telling what my next build is. Not yet anyway. Oh, here is a clue: This build is dedicated to my nephew Tim, who is a Marine Sargeant who just returned from Afghanistan. As the next few days unfold, you'll be able to piece this puzzle together.

Ok, first hint for today: Tim just turned 23. Put yourself in that timeframe and what would you like when you were 3 years old?
One great thing about this forum is that nobody leaves us on our own. Always a tip or encouraging word. Best forum on the Internet.

3 years old you say... Foyt's Copenhagen car? More seriously, at 3 I would've gone for Lil Al's #3 March, but this is a Lola apparently.

On a serious note...are you going to use the T8900 Lola? Because Pancho didn't race a T8800 during the race.
If you decide to use the T8900. Let us Know. Because Im currently working on one. I'm trying to work out an easy solution on fixing the Roll bar area around the head rest.

I'm trying to work out an easy solution on fixing the Roll bar area around the head rest. UGGHHH Now you tell me! No, actually I am using the 8800 for the simple reason that the engine cover "winglets" on the 8900 have that flat and upturned look and Pancho's car didn't have that. One modification I made was to use evergreen styrene to make bigger end plates for the rear wing. The qualification photo showed that, so I went with it. In a related item, has anyone changed out those winglets on the 8900 to look more like the 8800? And how much hassle is it to make it curve up? What is the issue you have with the roll bar and head rest area?

I would just cut those winglets off and use some good old styrene to fix the 8900. But when it comes to bending the styrene...just take both of your thumbs and bend it more then the angle that you want. Then let go of it and it should go to about the angle you you need, but just play around with it. also you would have to use the pointed rear wing also for the 8900.

What is the issue you have with the roll bar and head rest area? Its molded wrong. The 8900 is way more "tighter upright". The 8800 is more square with a of less a radius roll bar. Or should I say a bigger arch.

That styrene modification has me wondering if I can make it look good without a heat gun. I'm sitting here with a KMart Havoline T8900 kit in front of me and I'm seriously contemplating prepping this kit for a change from white to black. At the same time, I've put in a few hours on the original kit and it's already got it's first coat of black. On the other hand, I can make that a Provimi Lola, since I have Michael's decals. I was going to make that anyway. Hmmmmm what to do. Jordan, does the engine/suspension from a T8800 need any modification to fit a T8900? I know I'll have to fill a hole in the engine cover then drill a new one. OK Chaparral. You got me here. Game on. Now it's a real WIP.

HA HA! just like what the kid on the Simpson's says. ;D You said you are giving it away, didn't you? But if you want to do it right your going to have to do some Home Work Also I noticed the bottom plate will have to be changed over too. If your going to use the 8900 with the modified winglets. And you will not have to use a heat gun for the styreme. ITS EASY NO SWEAT!

I get it. I just noticed you're from the EVERGREEN STATE! Evergreen, as in Evergreen Styrene. So by making me use the styrene, you get a kickback from your state. Conspiracy.
My other option is to use the pieces for the bottom plate from a T8800. Do you think that will work?
By the way, I'm not giving it away, just a little dedication from a proud uncle to one of our nation's finest. He can derive pleasure from the pictures.

I'm toast. This modification is best left to guys that can do a resin makeup of the engine cover for a T 8900. I did everything I know and I can't get any structural integrity for the pieces that I'm trying to re-do. And since I want to get this done before I hit Social Security, I'm going with the T-8800 and using the rear wing from a T-8900. I'll have pictures up in a day or so.
Sorry to disappoint you Chaparral. That doesn't mean I won't keep trying. I just want to see some results for this car. Tim is looking forward to seeing this also so I have a little urgency to finish.

I will show the step by step later....I need to get my stuff together and finish the area first

As promised...Lots of work left. The rear wing obviously needs paint, as does the suspension and right side radiator. Can anyone explain why black paint takes so long to cure? I used the Testors Gloss Black and it's a bit sticky to the touch even after 2 days.
