Just got an email telling me my Newgarden kit is ready for shipping. I understand people who ordered the Sato kit got an email last week. Who’s going first with an In Progress report?

I ordered both of the initial release versions and I haven’t gotten my email yet. ☹️😂😂. Looking forward to seeing some builds of these.

I checked on my order and it appears they created a shipping label yesterday. I initially pre-ordered on 9/6/23.

Good idea! I’m a little slow and hadn’t thought of checking my order on the site yet. I checked my order and evidently it is on the way! I never got an email but that’s ok!

This is the way I understand how things went. Sato kits were completed first (boxed complete) and those who ordered only Sato would have shipments first. They revised the Newgarden decals which caused a day or so delay and were evidently done on Monday. McLaughlin and Larson should both be done by now as well. I ordered Newgarden and Sato back when they were first available in August. Then a month or so ago I ordered McLaughlin as well. When I look at my order it looks like they waited to ship until all 3 kits were available so they could ship complete. They did a you tube video going around their facility while they were putting things together which provided a lot of good information. Jim from Salvinos also did an unboxing video which provided some good insight into the parts, how they best go together, etc.
I am definitely looking forward to the arrival of these. Based on everything I have seen, I am pretty excited about what they are doing.

While my dear wife is enjoying her hobby of gardening, I’m enjoying a beverage on our shaded porch and inspecting my kit that arrived today. I must say that at first glance I’m very happy with the kit. Yes, I’m not a fan of the red plastic, but with today’s primers it’s no biggy. I’ll certainly be purchasing the Indycals spring shocks that Michael introduced at the memorabilia show at Indy when he makes them available. I’m sure that if he introduces any other parts I’ll be in for those too. Now we will all have to wait for what I’m sure will be a lot of new decal sheets from Indycals. Hopefully, the Chevy I want to build will be high on his list. Question: Since this is a full detail kit it will require some wiring. If anyone wants to share detail photos or knows of an online source I’m sure it would be appreciated.

The kits are delayed and should go out by Wednesday of this week. Apparently, the front backing plates were mismolded and they are adding remolded parts in the kits that did not go out. Also the Newgarden kits were missing a decal. 300 kits that went out(Sato) will be sent the fixed parts. This is from the Salvino's podcast over the weekend.

My two kits arrived and they look pretty nice at a glance. Those carbon decals sure are a nice touch.

Really excited to start my Newgarden kit. I'd like to paint as much of it as I can instead of relying on the decals. Any idea what red and yellow I should go with? I

Just got an email that my Newgarden order is being prepared to ship, did someone on here say it comes molded in red? Does the McLaughlin come molded in yellow? Is one of the decal set Mike is working on the Verizon for the other penske?

If you are actually building the Newgarden car, painting red over red and white over white shouldn't be a problem. All the yellow is handled by decals.

While MICHAEL @ Indycals has stated they aren't announcing anything, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him offer decals for all (3) Penske cars from the front row.

The #2 Shell paint definitely fades between colors with stops at red, orange/butterscotch, yellow, light yellow, and white. I got to see and photo the 2023 winner up close in the garage area after it was done post victory circle.
As for painting the car, you probably will be okay with just red, yellow, and white paints then mixing the in between colors, trying to match a red and yellow close to the Shell decals you use.
I tried again this year to see and photo the winner post race, but never saw it. Around 9 we left the garages to get an off brand Sharpie at the Gift Shop. As we headed back to the garages, I could hear the #2 team going "whoooo" from Victory Circle as the crew was still taking photos. The Yellow Shirt guarding the garage entry told us entry for non-team staff was closed but we thankfully we sweet talked our way back in within a few minutes. However, around 9:20pm the Yellow Shirts were chasing us out any still remaining non-crew inside the garage area. Sadly, we lingered a little longer but never saw the #2. For their part, the Yellow Shirts had been at it since 4am and were mostly still really pleasant to talk to.
Also, Michael Portaro is one vacation currently. To echo what Chris said, IndyCals is also not revealing any current car decals at this point until they are released. I am excited about his 3D printed pieces for the cars, too.

To echo what Chris said, IndyCals is also not revealing any current car decals at this point until they are released. I'm not revealing anything I do either from now on. The amount of emails I get every day asking when a particular kit is going to be done is excessive. I never know what second, minute, hour, and day I'm going to have a new kit done. I just work on stuff when the time is right. So that's why I stopped doing WIPs and coming soon announcements. So for now on everyone will get blindsided.

Got my 2 kits in on Monday and took to work updating some items that weren't updated to the 2023 spec: 1) While the kit came with the rear attenuator used from 2012 through the early part of 2023, the attenuator shape changed for the 2023 Indy 500. 2) I HAD to correct those wheels provided with the car. Due to the way that the center spindle and wheel nut were designed, I also had to add some modifications to help with its installation, but also let me utilize PFC brake calipers instead of the 2012-2017 Brembo brakes utilized in the kit. I'll share some other parts as they are further developed as well.

Yes, but about that Briggs 206 on what appears to be a Margay chassis, behind the Salvino kit... lol

I thought I would share my impressions of the new Indycar kits. First I think they are great! I am taking my time in building the kit as I am unfamiliar with it compared to the 80's kits. Decals, decals, decals and more decals. The carbon fiber decals are great, I'm just having difficulty figuring out where they all go. I like them because it reduces painting time. Because of the larger scale, I will be able to do more detailing. Also, I have learned when you drop a piece on the floor it breaks like all the other kits! Ugh! I am looking forward to additional kits, parts or decals to have more options. What are your thoughts? Anybody else have tips? I have watched Clay Kemp's video at least three times.

Love the attention to detail with the PFC brake setup too.

I'm working on a couple options to offer the parts and will share more when I have more information. I also realized that the kit parts don't include the shroud around the brake rotors, so I want to determine the best way to offer that, which may be to simply create an entire replacement part of the upright itself.

Another option which could be cool is an updated Cosworth Mk2 steering wheel that most teams seem to use nowadays. The kit uses the older 2012 style wheel. Penske seems to use their own bespoke steering wheel style as well.

Penske seems to use their own bespoke steering wheel style as well. Actually, the kit includes the Andretti-style wheel used in 2021 by Helio Castroneves... it looks JUST like this (only smaller) A couple other goodies that I've developed over the weekend: Aeroscreen Mask Fuel Filler - Currently as designed, its pretty impossible to get into the recess to paint the silver areas, so this allows to be installed from the back. Also comes with a small 'washer' type piece to align the initial pilot hole. Some decals are coming soon, it was nice to see that the car scales exactly at 90% of the 1/18 decals, so I intend to adjust all of my 2020-Present 1/18 decal offerings to 1/20 scale. [/img]

Decided to skip the "blend" decals and painted the gradient myself with Tamiya cans. I used TS16 for the yellow, TS56 for the orange and TS49 for the red. After I took these photos I cleaned up the transitions a bit so they're more even side to side. Pretty happy with the result.
