I've been getting asked about the latest indycar kit, and yes indeed I'm working on it. Just like old times I will give news and updates on this thread. I'm currently reworking the body over. I'm planning how I'm going to create the halo area. Scratch building one is one thing, but making one kit friendly is another. Lol

I can't remember, but didn't someone in the 1/18 community 3d draw and print accurate steering wheels for the latest Dallara Diecasts?
You all probably know where im heading with this question. Lol

Lol Eric Hensley has some ones with the new Cosworth dash. Not sure who drew them but he would be where I would check first. If not, LMK. Jordan

What is the best two-part putty (Besides Bondo) for model building? that doesn't shrink. I don't have time to look for an hour - it's easier to ask my research crew.

I ment to say glazing putty, but ill try out the evercoat and 3m. Evercoat is the one I was trying to think of.
I use Apoxie Sculpt everyday. Which I agree it is awesome, but im trying to find a good alternative 2 part glazing putty that doesn't shrink. I have regular bondo but was hoping to try something a bit more model car friendly
Thanks

The 3M white is a single application putty. In other words...it's not a two part putty. NO MIXING. It a very good putty and easy to use.

Calvin, this is what i use in my body shop as well as my models. U.S. Chemical & Plastics H Icing LITE 120Z Bag (USC-26012)
It will never shrink, it's easy to apply and sand. I'm real surprised you and Kevin are not using this stuff already. I find it indispensable when creating body shapes.
Hope that helps Craig

The picture Stu posted of the real car, the shade of pink looks lighter than today's winner(?) Luckily the Indycals color research team is currently at the speedway taking note of the color of the real car.

A bit off topic, but what is that little string flowing off the back of the rear wing?

A bit off topic, but what is that little string flowing off the back of the rear wing? I'm sure it's just part of the wrap that came off the edge of the rear wing. As far as I know, they don't paint the rear wings, but only wrap it(?)

Here is a WIP update. The most challenging part of this car is to make the Halo and especially the lip for the Clear Windscreen. I have the tendency to get anxiety with trying to make these small lips on these scratch build. I first drew out the out shape of the lip and part that holds the bottom part of the windscreen in place. Then glue it to some thin styrene to cut it out with an X-acto knife. Then I glued the styrene onto the resin master and held it and fought it for a few mins until I got it on straight I did the same process with the halo, I drew out the shape on the computer and then glued it onto some thin styrene. I took that thin styrene and glued it onto a thick piece of styrene and used the Dremel to cut out the top shape of the halo. Since there is a taper on the front of this halo I had to figure in the taper angle by drawing the bottom of the dimension and glueing it onto the bottom of the cutout thick piece of styrene. and as you can see in this picture below I got a successfully shaped halo You can also see I have the transaxle built, waiting for detailed work. On thing, im currently biting me tough with is my new idea of getting investment castings done using high-temperature epoxy I've been experimenting with high temp epoxy, with hopes it works for masters for my white metal guy to use. When casting white metal you first need investment castings to make the rubber spin-casting mold, but the parts need to withstand 350deg during the vulcanizing process. Normally you would take the resin or plastic parts to someone that has knowledge and foundry tools to make metal investment masters to use in the white metal process. Well, Im trying to save a huge amount of time and money by, bypassing that step and just make my own investment castings to send to the white metal guy. I just sent these test parts to my white metal guy to see if it works...cross your fingers! If it works ...OMG!!!! It will be a breakthrough! Im also going to supply screws in this kit that will be holding the undertray into place onto the bottom of the body. I'll have countersunk holes where they will be screwed in. Making this design change will help avoid having to apply messy super glue all over the bottom and holding and clamping down with force. Im designing this undertray to be super builder-friendly to where EVERYTHING lines up. No more sanding, filling and grinding to get this undertray to fit. To be honest and transparent, it will be a night and day difference from my old undertray design.

Not the same. I don't think the Auto Nation cars have ever quite been this color they are this year.

Not the same. I don't think the Auto Nation cars have ever quite been this color they are this year. Michael is correct.. Of the two I have done the first was a mirror purple. Not the same as this years. The second one was more just pink and again, different than this years. This years Harvey and Helio are a hot pink and BTW. Both very cool looking. That Krylon may be the ticket. I would air brush it though. Stu

I got most everything sized up and starting to fit together. I need to clean up, sharpen up, and then prime everything and sit down and stare at it for a while to know if I got the proper look. Not having the windscreen tricks the eye and makes it look off. But face it, the halo, makes this car look "Top heavy-looking" The next update will have a bigger "wow" factor Non-primed cars always look way worse in a picture
