I have built many Tamyia naval ships and several others such as the large scale Academy Titanic, Revell/Monogram USS America and Constitution. I've sold them all on commission with the exception of the Titanic.
I currently have the 1:100 Heller HMS Victory, 1:72 Revell/Monogram GATO Class Sub, 1:350 Tamiya Yamato, and 1:93 C.Mamoli USS Constitution cross section in wood still in my inventory to complete. I just love the current upgrades available for most post 1900 offerings.
I like your work and photos. Keep this up as it is refreshing to see something like this in the forum.

Watching this WIP made me want to build it. So I went and got one. Hopefully your work will help me build it. Nice job.

Just wondering: you've got a nice clean workbench that my work bench will never be, but I do clean off areas where I am working. How large a work space would I need to build something like the USS Olympia (how long is this model)? --Frank

My workbench is a bid old desk. It also serves as my office, so when I want to work I just set the keyboard aside. The Olymbis is a bit under 18".

Looking really good! You're doing a fantastic job on a kit that I know can be a bit of a rough build.
Did you actually paint the wheel house Mahogany or did you cheat like I did?

You know you're doing a good job when others go out and start buying their own.

This a great example of the upgrades to this kit. Here is the original kit supplied skylight (2 pieces with molded in canvas cover and the photo-etched skylight assembly. (12 pieces) and here are some of the amidships details. Searchlight Platforms, main winch and the aforementioned skylight, which BTW is over the Ward Room.

Having been on board the Olympia I can see how well you have done this model! Excellent job. The photo etched railings and stairs look awesome.

I recently removed cable TV from the house and have been distracted building a media computer and connecting all of the TV. We get even more than we had with Verizon and pay over $100 a month less. Anyway I have been able to get back to the Olympia. The stacks and their rigging are now complete. I used a 6 mil ceramic rigging fiber for the stack stays and the antenna. Neat stuff.

Where can you get the ceramic rigging fiber? Have really enjoyed this WIP. Have you thought about what is next?

Here is the supplier of the ceramic fiber: Precision Enterprises P.O. Box 97F Springfield, VT 05156 Phone/fax 802-885-3094 they'll take phone orders Visa & MC Hours: M-F After 5 Sat: 10A - 5P Eastern Standard Time Zone Hope this helps. I will also be using EZ line for some of the rigging. It is a product that was developed for model train guys, but will work well for this application. It is elastic. www.berkshirejunction.com/ezline.htmlNext up is a race car, but which one I have not decided. I have a few resins to do, and a Hiro Ferrari 312T4 and the new Tyrell 002. Decisions, decisions. Throw in that I am expecting a Lotus 38 and a Mongoose from Lance, and I want to order the '83 Lola from Kevin.

I love this era also. I have a USS Iowa BB-4 to also do. If you like that era, I recommend you look for the Zvezda Borodino. It's a great model of a pre-dreadnaught:

Coming down the home stretch. The forward mast and rigging is done. On the rear mast I applied the lessons from the fore mast. I tied all of the rigging lined on the mast before attaching it to the ship. MUCH EASIER!!!!! I should wrap up in a couple days!!
