Whereas, this car never raced at Indy, and Whereas, a wonderful model of it will soon be out, and Whereas, creative opportunities like this don’t come along all that often, I hereby suggest a group think about possible liveries for said car. A Great Big What Might Have Been is waiting for our imaginations to break out of the morass of wintry grayness. I understand Truesports might have become involved- would that imply Bud is along too? Or Sefac markings like their contemporary F1s? Maybe Momo like the 90s 333SPs? Or ?? And even more fun speculation: Who drives it? Wouldn’t it be great if Mario had gotten on board with his development skills? Or would they import their F1 squad? Or??
But Wait There’s More. . . What if the Captain had been persuaded to run the program? Retro Sunoco Ferrari anyone?
In my crazed mind I can visualize multiple livery schemes showing up in these pages, each one sparking a “darn, why didn’t I think of that?” Now that would be interesting. And fun.
Anyway Happy Holidays and thanks to Kevin and all his fellow craftsmen for allowing us to indulge ourselves. Dan Parke

Something to go with the red paint, like Bud-a-weiser, or maybe Red-a-Roof Innsah?

This is a thoughtful thread. The only time that Ferrari actually ran in the Indianapolis 500 was in 1952 when they entered a multi-car car team. Only one driven by world champion Alberto Ascari made the race. As you might expect his car was painted traditional Ferrari red. However, the others were painted in various schemes. I remember that Johnnie Parsons was initially assigned to one sponsored by Grant Piston Rings and may have been white. So, suggestions would be fun. Thanks for the fantasy. Jim

I have pre-ordered mine. I will likely build it as per the prototype. However, I'm sure it would look stunning with Martini, Lowenbrau or Momo sponsorship!

Dan...you done sparked me pea brain on this one. I started thinking of doing a team that would've been if I was a part of that high dollar Racing back then. Hmmmm...ya got me juices flow'in!!!

Since the Alfa's ran with Miller Genuine Draft sponsorship, that kind of works. Been years since I read the Bobby Rahal book by Gordon Kirby. I might be wrong, but for some reason thinking I remember Rahal visiting the Ferrari factory at that time and not for F1.

Good! That's something that has to happen given this gem of a model. Surely it turns the "what if" mode ON. To start with, surely number 27!! Not sure what were Agip market interests in the US back then (I am asuming we try to keep it as realsitic as possible within the fantasy) but ENICHEM/Enimont looks like a proper fit. Also I'd bet digital (that was already on the F1 cars) might have a bigger presence. No alcoholwas on the Ferraris back then (bar exceptions as Giacobazzi and CINZANO Gilles and Lole's personal sponsorship) and since M@r1b0r0 involvement was already big I think we'd have seen a presence bigger than in F1 cars maybe like 1997 F310 one. Full rear wing big sticers maybe even full rocket red color. Plus some technical sponsor stickers and more in the US style (full color badges) rather than the just white approach Ferrari was using back then. Hmm the prospect of a #27 heralding the dayglo red we'd later see on the STP cars is soooo tantalising...

For me, I think Patrick racing is my fantasy choice. They weren’t building their own cars or anything to really stop them from trying something like that and had proven commodities as drivers. I think Ferrari would have liked that. Plus they were Sponsored by M@r1b0r0 around that time who already Had a relationship with Ferrari. Probably wouldn’t hav the iconic orange and white M@r1b0r0 livery that Patrick used to avoid using the same livery as their F1 rivals at McLaren. I envision the Patrick Racing 637 looking a lot like the F187 in Ferrari red with large M@r1b0r0 stickers. Sort of like when M@r1b0r0 took over as primary sponsor of Ferrari F1 in 93 or whenever that was. So that’s my ideas on the subject. Fun topic! Now I kind of want to get one of the kits and build it as a Patrick Racing car. Lol Obviously this is an old topic at this point but I wasn’t on the forum when it was broached and hadn’t seen it until it was bumped to the top, so I thought I’d share.

Hi everyone, That article and accompanying illustrations was quite interesting. Kevin’s got more kits available. You know it’s never too late to do a WIP or just show pix of your completed idea. Just sayin. . . . Dan
