Sometimes working the night shift can be a bit uurrrggghhhh.....
But sometimes.
Two nights ago on my station the lads turned up to deliver the stack of free papers for the dispenser at 0300 hours.
Front page. Splash notice. First come first served tickets for a special preview of the film.
Long before London's four million commuters got up and got their hands on the paper, I had two tickets printed off for next Tuesday.
Abuse of my position or early bird catches the worm?
Don't care. Can't wait.
Either way I will likely go a second time and pay properly so that the film's figure look a tiny bit better given its 'our' genre.

Being retired we can go to a movie during the day. My wife has already purchased our movie candy to sneak into the theater and we’ll go sometime next week. Maybe it will cause me to get back to my MkII build.

I have four employees who work for me. All four are race fans, so I'm taking them to see it at Flix Brewhouse, which is a movie theater, brewery and restaurant rolled into one, as a appreciation of all of their hard work.

I don't have employees so (in addition to my wife and step daughter) I was thinking of bringing my models of the Miles and McLaren cars

I’ve been very curious as to how this movie is going to treat the finish, especially with Ken Miles being a central character in the story. After reading the article I’m scratching my head as my recollection is that at the last pit stop where Miles and McLaren were told about the dead heat that McLaren was 1 lap down and Miles had to slow down to let car #2 unlap itself and then catch up. Really looking forward to this one. My wife and I plan to be eating popcorn for lunch this coming Friday.

I had always wondered why they made a big deal about "the distance rule" when McLaren was clearly ahead at the checkered flag. But there's post race footage where you can hear a track announcer talking about it and saying that was the reason McLaren was the winner.

Gentlemen: Sometimes knowing the true story gets in the way...the movie is WELL done...it checks all the boxes for big time studio blockbuster...however, in the interest of movie making, some parts are changed because the story must keep your interest...Long distance auto racing is usually boring( winning by a lap or two) except for a very few, like LeMans 1966...Spoiler Alert: the ‘66 Sebring race is Not shown; only mentioned...the other part is, if you know the history of the Ford GT, the beautiful Ford GT’s are shown out of order...it jumps from the GT 40 to the Mark II with the only difference being the 427 engine...but please remember; sorting out a race car is Incredibly boring for most people...Miles spent weeks and months sorting out the car, making laps and incremental changes...Big Spoiler: it NEVER says that the body was a Lola; because Ford (the company and the man,) is a major character... I enjoyed it, but go with an open mind... Tim

I enjoyed it, but go with an open mind... Tim Totally agree with Tim. My wife and I saw the movie yesterday, and we both (she cheerfully tolerates racing for my sake) enjoyed it very much. But for those familiar with the Shelby/Ford GT40 stories, just be prepared for the usual Hollywood mangling of facts and historical details, as it's done to enhance the movie experience, particularly for non-racing fans. Just enjoy it as an exciting movie about a great period in racing history. My only gripe with the movie: With the undoubted million dollar budget for making the movie, couldn't they have made an effort to make the J-Car and the MarkIV look at least a little more like the real cars? I know, the majority of people that will see the movie won't know the difference, but come on, it wouldn't have cost much to have some faux body panels designed and formed up to clip on for those scene, and their attempt at briefly showing a car painted up as the 1967 winning MarkIV make me actually cringe. And they can't say there isn't enough reference photos of the real cars to work from... Also, quattro , very sorry to hear about your Mum and Dad. Hope your mother is doing well, and they both are fortunate to have you caring for them. Cameron

I had always wondered why they made a big deal about "the distance rule" when McLaren was clearly ahead at the checkered flag. Michael, I wonder the same. I'd think that rule would only matter if it was a true dead heat, but the photos show it wasn't. Maybe Ford saying they wanted a dead heat was enough to spark someone in the ACO to bring up that rule, and that's what has been remembered, regardless of how it actually finished. Thanks for the link to that article! Cameron

I'm still looking forward to seeing the movie. I expect some "Hollywood" added but hopefully they keep the main aspects of the real story intact. I just hope they give due credit to Shelby-American and Miles for turning the GT 40 into a winner.

If you watch the movie, when Peter shows Ken his drawing of the Le Mans circuit, he has a start line at pit exit... and a finish line at pit entrance. I remember reading somewhere (old man memory at work!) that when they crossed the finish line they were even but the video showing the McLaren/Amon car pull ahead as they approached the flag man was well past the finish line. I’m seeing the movie tonight in IMAX so I’m pretty stoked. This era was the main reason I’ve been a Ford fan ever since. MJ

Just had enough time to get over to the flicker show tonight.
Enjoyed it after taking the advice on here about it being what it is.
Laughed out loud at the end of the meeting with Mr Ferrari. Didn't need that translated!
Very glad that the two main protagonists have had what they contributed to the success put on film like this.
Pity was there were only five people in the theatre.... There were seven when I went to see Rush.
So chaps. What will be the next film project based on real life motorsport history? Be a good few years yet I am guessing whatever.
Oh Hang on. Still yet to see 'the art of racing in the rain'.
Flashman. Thanks.
Dad will need full time care now. The home it is. Mum will move in with me. She took one look at the big table earlier and said, 'You were doing this when you were 14. I thought you had grown out of doing these toy cars by now.....' Guess I may need to tidy up a bit......

One last thing chaps.
When I came out of the theatre and sparked up a ciggie my mind went to the song 'News' by Dire Straits....

Sorry to hear about the parent Quattro, getting old isnt all that fun. Go see it. Me and two buddies went and saw it. Had the fancy electric recline seats and plenty of room. I thought Matt did a decent Carroll. As noted in the thread, its not historically correct. But definitely worth going to see. Its not pushed to far like a few other " race movies" ( Days of blunder) and the lousy one with Sylvester Stallone ( forgot the name). Those two where terrible. This isnt those. No fake fireworks or quarters stuck in tires. Christian Bale does a good Ken Miles. Worth the view. Not a fluff film.
