I am not sure what planet you are on or if you have never seen how Roger Penske conducts business. This is only a great thing for Indianapolis and the Indy 500 and Indy car series. Roger being 82 years old has nothing to do with how Succesful this will be for Penske Corp.and IMS. Like Tony Goerge said this is as far as the Hulman family can take the Speedway. The whole Goerge family has never had the inspiration that Tony Hulman had and passion far as that goes. I am glad it is out of the family's hands. The Hulman Goerge family almost ruined the 500 and open-wheel racing as we know it. It finally took some smarts of them to hire the right people to promote the product and start putting open-wheel/Indy car racing back on the map. It is the most talented drivers and closest racing we have seen for decades. With Penske at the wheel, it is only going to get great again. It will never be what it was, that was a bygone era. Hopefully, we will see another engine/chassis combo and perhaps another tire company. I personally am looking forward to what he has in store for the series. It will not happen overnight but Roger does work fast.

I grew up in Mooresville, Indiana just 30 minutes from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. My parents, who were racing fans, took me to the first day of qualifications when the Speedway reopened in 1946. I was four years old. Racing became my passion and the drivers of that era and more were my heroes. I was fortunate to become the Chief Serial Scorer for the 500 in 1963 which gave me access to hallowed ground. Anywhere I wanted or needed to go except on the track when the light was green. So, in 1969, I was walking around in the garage area so I could learn any car detail that would help me recognize the car in scoring. Roger Penske's garage for the #66 Sunoco Special driven by Mark Donohue was unlike any other. As my mother would have said, "Everything has a place and everything is in its place." The entire garage was spotless even to the black and white checkered floor. I had never seen anything like it in the garage area. It was my first glimpse into the new owner of the Speedway, Roger Penske. He is a special man. I am pleased and grateful that he is the new owner of IMS. Tony Hulman is smiling. Jim

It is official, the deal has closed - Penske is the 4th owner of the Speedway. Heard since this was announced that NASCAR and Liberty (F1 owners) also were talked to before Penske. I think the Hulman's picked the best avenue for the future.
