I'm moving along nicely on my 79 winner. I've managed to overcome most of the kit problems but as I near the finish line one challenge remains. The windscreen. I know some have done this build and done it very well. What are the options for getting the kit windscreen to work or what are other options? Can someone vacuum form one for me? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. What's left of my sanity hangs in the balance.

I try to avoid vacuforming windscreens anytime I can, but purchase at least three when forced to use them as I’m very inept at cutting them. I think I ordered one of Kevin’s kits one time and he cut the windscreen for me! I’ve had good luck over the years thinning plastic windscreens with a graduated sanding system and then the Novus plastic polishes. I then finish it off with a dip in Future. I tint the Future with a vegetable coloring if applicable. Paul Erlendson

I'm with you Paul, I hate doing them and wish kit makers would provide more than one. I probably should have solved this problem before investing so much time on this kit. Thanks for your input

John, would you be willing to wait a week and I can hook you up with a few vac form windscreens? I've been meaning to offer these, but like usual, haven't got to it...

Btw I do agree windscreens are tricky to cutout and glue on.... I'm always thinking of ways to replace the vacuum form method but its hard to beat that thin look that we need for 1/25 I do have a trick but its EXTREMELY crazy using CA glue I need to figure out a better method for doing this that I can teach others...

Calvin, waiting isn't a problem, I have lots to do on this project. I am interested in your crazy trick with CA glue though. BTW Thanks for your kind offer.

One thing I’ve done several times and am getting pretty good at is making the windscreen from very thin clear plastic clamshell food containers. I rough cut out the wind screen by holding and wrapping the plastic around the kit screen. . Then I carefully tape the plastic down onto the kit screen and use a hair dryer to kind of mold it around the curvature, cooling it with cold water. Then cut the screen out with nail scissors and un-tape. Most times I continue shaping the curve by hand with the hairdryer until I get it about right. Usually requires several attempts each build but it works out.

I am interested in your crazy trick with CA glue though. I'll have to put together some sort of WIP on my technique but I do warn you, it's a little wild and crazy because thin CA glue is such an aggressive type of glue. its FAST setting, can hurt paint, FAST, it can fog up your windscreen if you put it in the wrong place. Basically, I like to take a dull X-acto knife and dip it into a puddle of CA glue and take the tip of the knife and dab a drop of CA on the base of the windscreen and use the physics of Capillary action to pull it across the base of the windscreen.

I made some PC-6 Windscreens for you, John. Hopefully, they work for you! If not we will try again. Id show how I do my vac-forming, but that's Area 51 kinda stuff! It throws all the conventional Vac-Forming ways out the window.

Guess I’m still a little lost here Calvin. Your super glue windscreens look very nice, but how do you trim them? File and sanding?

I made some PC-6 Windscreens for you, John. So, will you be putting these on HobbiTime for others to buy? I only have a couple of the PC-6 kits in my stash, but those would be great to have! In fact, I'm planning to place an order soon for a couple things (the Kurtis Kraft and IMSA 962 sets and possible one or two other things depending how my money holds out ), and I could see adding a pair of these windscreens. Paul Erlendson No, I vac-form with the traditional clear plastic, heat, and vacuuming. But I use crazy CA glue to apply the windscreens to the car. I use small scissors to cut them out and use a sanding file to adjust the fit.
