Now you've done it, Kip. I should have known if it had to do with Hurtubise you would be at the head of the line. This is just terrific. I admire your skills, sense of history, and dedication to one of the best drivers of his era. You also manage to reinsert Fred Gerhardt into our minds so we get out the reference books and look him up. He was one of the Indy surprises of the 1960s by building innovative, relatively inexpensive, and dependable cars during the transition to rear engine. Thanks, Kip. You are one of the best. Jim

It really looks the part. Very accurate to the 1:1. Thank you for the WIP, we would never really understand what all you did without seeing the updates of the process.

Thank you all for the very kind words.
Jim, you had inquired about making a mold of this car. Kevin and I talked about it and I sent him some photos of the body. Unfortunately, Kevin said that the way I had constructed it was not amenable to making a mold .
Again, thank you all for looking and commenting on this WIP.

Hard to believe that beautiful thing started out as just a sheet of plastic! Incredible doesn't begin to describe the building process

Finished Most of the non-scratch built parts are from my parts box so I am not sure what the donor kit was. Randy Short sent me a Turbo-Offy engine. The seat came from the MPC Eagle. Some of the suspension is modified from the AMT Lotus. The steering is posable. Tires and wheels from HRM. Coil over shocks from RB motion. Decals from GWS (the white on the nose is painted). Body and windshield by me with help from Juanjo on the shape and placement of the bulkheads. Paint is airbrushed decanted Tamiya. Thanks for looking and the kind comments. kip

Seeing it come together step by step was helpful to appreciate you work more. Very inspiring seeing this from nothing into something that is so unique and well done.
Not only a great replica but amazing you would put time into making the wheels turn. Impressive! I really like and thank you for sharing the whole process with us.

Man, that is gorgeous! As a life-long Hurtubise fan, I can't help but wish it could have been cast as a resin kit but I understand the reasons why not. Maybe someday I'll attempt a scratch build project like this myself, you and Juanjo make it look much easier than I'm sure it really is! Again, an impressive and beautiful result!

Thanks for all the kind comments. I appreciate it.
Brian, It's really not that hard to use Juango's methods and I think its more fun than building a kit. Perhaps the most difficult for me would be to get the shape of the bulkheads. So far, Juango has done that for me. For my next build I will try to do the bulkheads myself. I also will attempt to make it so that someone can cast it up.
Jim, next on the workbench? Hmm. Probably a 1964/65 Shrike, the 1964 Ward Watson, and the early 1950s KK 3000. In what order I am not sure.
Thanks again for looking.

Hi Kip Beautiful work. Now we are going to have two Juango's to try and keep up with . Then you must be looking at the same type of cars that I am. I said to Juango and I'll say it to you. The two of you have figured out how to shrink real cars down to scale. Again beautiful work. Ralph

Kip,
I'll vote for the Kuzma KK 3000 as your next project - I'm a big fan of that era in general & Frank Kurtis in particular
But whatever you choose I'm looking forward to following along & learning a lot from your work
