Chaps
It is what my night shifts are for.....
Have done four 1/25th jobs of late but went back to this scale to have a play around with a view to doing something I cannot find anywhere.
Did a Yellow/Miller March 86c recently using a HIFI Automodelli kit. Yeah I was pleased with it at first 'cept the nose always bothered me.
Than I got hold of a Penske spec Ampersand March 86c and suddenly the yellow peril looked wrong. All the time I kept thinking the HIFI thing had a nose from a PC16 or a Ferrari 126 C2b.
I had a spare HIFI body, some Miller decals and spare Ampersand wheels and given I am fast becoming a total Indycar head case I thought, sod it, see if I can add to that Sullivan collection of mine.
This is it as it stands. It is OK but I know I can do better. This one is just held together with blutack. Haven't committed yet.
And am having a hard time deciding if a HIFI or Ampersand kit is the best for converting. Might be the HIFI given it allows for a lower engine area and thinner front sidepod config. I think the one I have done thus far needs more hump atop the side pod which means re-siting the fuel intake valve.
Found a MEGA cutaway but doesn't show body detail.
But what I really need is some decent reference of the area along the top of the cowling and the exhaust config at the rear of the cowling.
If anyone can help?

Jordan. Thank you. I think, however, I might have got lucky. And I am out of here in a few days on my jaunt to Toronto so back burner for now on everything. But if you have an overheadish shot that would be great.
Search Penske PC 16 and up come lots of pics but not anything showing that part of the car. Search Long Beach 1987 and I find a lo res of what I think I need taken by that prolific lens man of the time, Marc Sproule. Love the fact he did so much of everything back then including second gen Can Am and the Formula Atlantics. But I digress.
The pic of Mears at Long Beach set me to thinking that maybe my 'muletta' should be a PC17....... With the 85 wheels and the 86 type flick ups. Tameo did one so will study it closely.
One last thing. Those watermarks on the pics. Is that Photobucket doing me for being stingy and not wanting to stump up any dosh? Note to self. All subject matter restricted to the right half of the image.... Or work out how to use Imgur.

Thats better.....
How I deluded myself into thinking I was close the first time I dunno.
Back on night shifts.
Found a couple of reference images that finally made me understand the profile of this thing. Stripped the HIFI March 86 'test' car back to metal and got going. After all my dithering about what to use.
Its basically a nose on a nose if that makes sense. Starts doing one thing then its almost like an extension jumped on. Extended the nose by 3.5 mm. Re profiled the side pods and thinned out the spine on the engine cover. Sand back a bit and cut the panel lines. Apart from having to do a new front wing everything else is ready to go....
Another lesson in look, look and look again.

Cheers again.
The PC15 features heavily. Giving me ideas....... Think it was Miami 86.

Fellas
Not my best but not my worse.
Think I am done. But I hate doing the windscreens... Especially when the wing mirrors do not want to stay on.
Anyways. PC16. Sullivan (wot a surprise) Long Beach 87.
Did end up using the HIFI March 86c. Indycals and my own decals at 1.64 and 1.43rd. Dumped the clunky white metal front suspension and fashioned my own out of staples and paper clip lengths. Wheels by Ampersand.
Indy's reference help got me thinking about trying a PC 15 (Miami 86 stylie). Penske at Indy book just arrived and thinking of going back beyond Sullivan and doing two versions of the Unser Miller march 84C in 43rd and maybe a third version in 25th when it becomes available again.
