I have tried Micro Sol and Micro Set as well as trying to soften decals with Solvaset. Nothing is working. I tried it on 2 models. #1 was a UT model of the #27 Kool car so I am not sure if the decals were spray sealed over but it does not appear so. The second model was one I built and decaled and I know it was not clear coated.
Does anyone have any tips pr suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Hi,
You can try :
1 - With masking tape (Tamiya)
2 - With microset (blue) and a fine brush
3 - Soak the body in a tray filled with water a good hour and a half. And then, patiently, even if particularly annoyed, try to slip a brush under the decal
4 - Liquid for windows as a last resort, for fear of altering the paint
hoping it can help you
Jean.

I have had some luck pulling off decals with scotch tape, but that method has also resulted in lifting the underlying paint and primer all the way down to the plastic. More often than not, I end up sanding them off starting with 1000 grit and working through 8000 grit, but it takes a long time and a lot of elbow grease.

Do you mean the 1/43 #27 Franchitti or the 1/18 #26 Tracy by UT Models? Ive only converted the Tracy, and its basically the worst experience in converting diecasts that you can have. Its a unique car for converting in that most of the simple tape tricks only work half way and leave stuff to clean up.
I've done 1-2 of these and helped a friend and basically came to the conclusion that you could do a full repaint conversion for less work and headache than to convert this car. That being said...
Tape should remove some/most of the decal, but the gold outlines on the text doesn't really seem to come off with tape, requiring scraping from an x-acto knife. You can also try using sandpaper to remove it, but either way, make sure you don't dig into the white paint and show primer underneath. I don't recall using Nail Polish Remover on this car due to the way the white is applied as tampo over the green (IIRC), other than to clean up the remainder on the sidepods (but not the plastic undertray).

Chris I am converting the 1/43 Franchitti by UT. You hit the nail on the head Chris. What you stated is exactly what I am encountering. This model is a pain! I have tried everything posted here and the only thing that is working is scraping them off (carefully) with various sharp objects. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Update: The best way to convert this model is sanding, masking and repainting. Anyone have a color suggestion for Kool Green???
