I have been a part of Open Wheel Racing Modelling for 10 years. While I have been posting and commenting during that time, I do not think I have ever posted any model photos. In fact its been a few years since I have been able to allocate the time to build a model. I have just recently completed my take on the 1969 F5000 Eagle MkV. While not a specific variant, it is reminiscent of an early version #7 driven by the late Tony Adamowicz. This model is based on the MPC Olsonite Eagle Indy car Kit 6026. The MPC Indy cars of 1968/1969 were among the first model cars I ever built. I thought it was time to go back and re-address my early builds with an updated variant. In order to replicate the key features of the F5000 Eagle MkV it has been extensively modified with scratch built and aftermarket parts. Only ~34 of the original ~129 kit parts were used. Key to this build was the scratch building of new monocoque skins to accurately replicate the narrower bodywork of the F5000 Eagle MkV. Based on measurements that I was graciously allowed to take of the restored car, this may be the first build to go this far in producing an accurate Eagle MkV. The suspension was entirely(with the exception of the uprights) scratch built to match as closely as possible original dimensions in scale. Awards: Best of Class - Competition: Circle Track/Road Course, GSL XXVII May 2-5, 2019. More images and details can be viewed at: link I hope that Open Wheel Racing Modelling members find my rendition of the F5000 Eagle MkV of interest and inspiration.
Cheers
Stephen

I got to see Stephen and his model at the GSL last week. It was great to see both. I knew once I saw who built this car that the details would be accurate and correct, and the judges agreed!
The GSL isn’t the largest contest, but it’s the most intense I’ve been to. To win any category is an achievement, but especially a class like this one, where an accurate depiction of the car is paramount. Stephen topped a field of really nice models. Congratulations, Stephen, and look forward to seeing you in 2022!

Really beautiful! Tony A to Z would be proud.
The changes to the monocoque are subtle but still noticeable.
Thanks for sharing. F5000 was among my favorite series and I attended races at Riverside, Long Beach and Road America.

Looking forward to the next time as it will be the last GSL. If you have never attended, it should be an event! Stephen

Stephen, I love the detail work on this one. Even with these smaller pictures, there is still so much that can be picked out. Given your love for the accuracy of historical subjects, it is great to see it lived out in your scale builds. A very nice F5000 build, thank you for sharing.

These photos plus more are available on the website link just after the photos above. Just click on the word “link”. For some reason they pop up bigger when you click on them at my website. Between originals and the restoration, there are a lot of variants that could be built to capture the subtle variations of this car’s evolution.
