I have the Pioneer Reynard kit from Revell. Is this the correct kit to build a model of the car shown below? If this IS the correct kit, are there any readily available decals for the car shown below? Any and all tips are appreciated. The G-Force is out (unless one of you have a spare kit) so....... (thanks to whomever supplied the pic) Thank you, Bill Little

Should be the right body (minus dorsal fin). I'm not sure about the wheels though.

Bill, so you are building this with the Pioneer kit? Much better to start with that one than the Visteon kit because the Pioneer is the right year! ;D
Use the wheels from the Visteon and chrome them or I can swap you a set if needed.

OK, I went back and it is the Visteon kit. No luck I guess. I have started it so I guess I will findf another subject for it and try to find a Pioneer kit somewhere. I have NO CLUE as to why my memory keeps coming up with *Pioneer*......... I have a MAJOR PROBLEM with ebay now, I cannot do ANY SEARCHES. Seems to be that we will have to reformat the computer which will loose most of everything I have now................ things just ain't getting no better.
Sorry for the problems. Bill

Come on Bill, what would Jim Valvano think? Seriously though, there are several options for your kit. Check out Stradasports. They should still have some Speedline decals you may want to pick up. www.stradasportsstore.com/speedlinedecals.htmlI say you build the Tecate car regardless whether the kit is the "right one" or not. Bill, the only differences in the '98 and '99 kit are front wings, rear wings, sidepods, and sidepod wings. Apologizes to Michael @ Indycals if he doesn't like hotlinks '98 '99 I *think* Michael build up one body and two sets of sidepods because all the details on the above cars are pretty much identical. Anyways. you can see the differences in the sidepods (outer bodypanels between the wheels) - the '98 kit has a smooth side while the '99 kit has a bump (for lack of a better word) on the top outside of the Like I said before, if you want to convert the kit you have into a '99 then I'll post some reference pics to show the differences in sidepods and even send you a spare set of wings. I have been watching eBay for you and don't see a '99 currently for sale. Most of all, build it the way you want.Apologizes if it was me who didn't get back to you soon enough - there has just been too much going on lately at work and home. Jordan

GHi Greg, Well since I was a linebacker at UNC-CH (Carolina!) a NC State coach would not have been my choice, but Jim was a great guy, and my youngest son played LB at NC State....... I have looked at the Tecate' decals several times so that will probably be what this kit becomes. I will try to find a Pioneer kit to build the Montoya car. Thanks, Bill

This will still be a glorified shelf build, but I want to use the correct year, at least ;D Using the correct year Reynard is akin to using the correct year Galaxie, or a Superbird versus a Daytona, for one of my NASCAR Dark Side builds! LOL!! (and remember, I was often condemned as being *ultra correct* in that area). Mongo

OK, I picked up a *1999 issue Chip Ganassi's Target Reynard* Revell kit. I HOPE this will build this Montoya Reynard. (??) Any ideas?
Thanks for putting up with me on this. Bill Little

Sorry Bill, the Target and Visteon kits are basically identical 1998 body kits except for the Target kit having the wheels chromed from the factory. The 1999 body kits were issued in 2000 in Motorola, Pioneer, and Miller Lite liveries.

Players was the '98 body, too. Revell kitted 8 version of this car
Eagle - '98 body, BBS wheels, only Good Year kit so was only kit that did not come with a set of rain tires Shell - '98 body, BBS wheels, easy to miss the fact they omitted the Miller Lite decals Visteon - '98 body, OZ wheels Target - '98 body, chrome OZ wheels, no Zanardi driver decals Forsythe - '98 body, chrome BBS wheels, Canadian Release and had no Player's marking ("Forsythe" never ran on the car) Motorola - '99 body, chrome BBS wheels Pioneer - '99 body, chrome BBS wheels Miller Lite - '99 body, chrome BBS wheels, had actual alcohol markings so this is an *adult collectable*

Hi Jordan!
Thanks, I am hoping that my son will help me reformat the computer tomorrow (Saturday). Just have to save my pictures, coreldraw, etc., and then *MAYBE* I will be back in business.
I got a small, 10 X 10, storage rental unit and have been moving stuff to clear out a working space (and make the wife happy! LOL!!) around here.
Sorry to be such a pain in the arse, I will probably never really learn about the late '90s...........

Thanks, Jordan! I finally have a Pioneer kit on the way! LOL!! And, I have the Visteon and Target kits to get the wheels from. So *maybe* I can actually, finally, build JPM's Indy 500 Reynard. ;D
I got he Tecate '98 decals to use on the Visteon kit, so that one is taken care of. I will never know enough to be *intelligent* about this era of Indy 500 cars, but this will be a start.

With these cars, you are going to build JPM's 1999 ChampCar rookie ride which he used to whip the field and win the FedEx Cup Championship. To build the 2000 Indy 500 winner, you really need an Etzel Speed Classics 2000 G-Force kit. Sadly, it is OOP and goes for $100-150 so the Revell kit is a good economical compromise for JPM fans Jordan

Jordan,
Doesn't Bill J make a 2000 G-Force? I seem to remember these showing up on eBay every few months. Or is it a 1999? It comes with Target decals.

JPM has only run in the one Indy 500 - the 2000 edition when he won. Bill repops the Etzel 2000 G-Force kit and it does show up periodically on eBay. Now I am not sure if Bill's molds are Chris's molds or a copy of an Etzel kit. IndyCals now does the decals, too!

Bill's is a repop of Etzels....he does not have Chris' molds or masters.

A modeler who wants JPM's Indy winner could also use the Rick Treadway Action 1/18 G-Force as the platform to begin that conversion.
